Saved a pelican today :)

Got to save a pelican today. Went metal detecting and there he sat in the surf about ankle deep in front of me and the closer I got the more I kept wondering why he wasn't flying off.

As I got to within 10 feet he tried to fly but at that point I could clearly see a line and fishing sinker attached to him. Poor thing had it wrapped around his wings and both legs. I motioned for a guy to come here that was up on the beach and he came down and helped me get the line off the pelican. Boy was he tangled good! Once free he flew off happily to continue his life! I can now say I know what it feels like to hold a pelican. :) Plus I got to go home with a few clad coins.

That is cool. Pelicans amaze me the way they flay so close to the water.

Who knows what great adventure awaits us all once we get out of the house? Wonderful to hear your story of a truly awesome day!:clapping:

A rewarding experience. I was detecting this summer and got to help save a protected box turtle.

That's a great story, thank so much for sharing!

Glad you saw it and was able to help it! I am a HUGE animal lover and can't stand to see them hurt.
