As Charles Garrett recomends, at 10 in. I lose the beep on clad dime, on quarter I lose the beep at 13 in, on a 177 cal air rifle pellett lose it at 4 in. and using 1/3 size piece of pellet i lose it at 2 1/2 in. I think this is purty good, my other detectors, couldn't find the pellet past 3/8 of an in. so I'm pleased with my Garrett
