Scorpion or new Infinium LS??????

Hi all

Glen from downunder here, been playing with the scorpion for a year now out on the goldfields of the Northern Territory here in aus but have had no success with it.

Am now thinking of getting the Infinium LS for next dry season to try. The scorpion would pick up small gold samples (pic attached) at my friends camp but not out in the fields!!!!
I also saw a pic in the latest Gold,Gem and Treasure mag here in Aus showing a crossfire coil on the Infinium, so would i be able to use the crossfire coil off the scorpion on the Infinium?
Could someone also explain the PULSE INDUCTION and how it works?

Glen

It's not the same search coil. Garrett makes a 5"x10" and 3"x7" double "D" for the Infinium that is the same size and looks like the Scorpion search coils, but it's totally different. For one thing, the Infinium is pulse induction(PI) and the Scorpion is VLF(very low frequency). The connector/plug is different anyway and don't match up.
Here's a link that well explains how metal detectors works/pulse induction, etc.

If I were you I would definitely get an Infinium because it was designed for Australia big deep gold. It won't find small pieces like the Scorp, but it handles hot ground very well, ignores hot rocks, goes super deep. I would keep the Scorp, too, if I were you and use it in areas that are known for smaller gold.

Don't get discouraged because you haven't found any nuggets yet. It took me over a year to find my first nugget. Best of luck to ya!:biggrin:Happy Hunting!:)
