SE 10" Slim Line Coil on the EX II - Any Difference?

Hi Everyone,

Question: I bought a used Explorer II that has the SE 10" Slim Line coil. I've been out a few times and noticed the depth seems a bit less than the old Explorer II with the old style stock coil that I had and sold a few years ago. Maybe it's my imagination. I had dug a few pre 1982 Memorials and clad dimes at 4"ish that seemed to pinpoint on the weak side for their somewhat shallow depth. I was at an old park where I dug some real deep silver quarters that "screamed" in the headphones when I had the other EX II. As far as my settings go, nothing has changed from I used in the past.

I like it as far as being a lighter coil, but I am just wondering if it is the same as the old standard FBS stock coil, better or less of a performer as it is more tumed to the new SE.

Any input appreciated as usual and of course: Good Hunting this year for everyone.

Thanks

I bought one of those new coils from Dave at Dixie but have not tried it out yet. One of the guys I hunt with, His girlfriend bought him a new se and a new sunray probe. He has not done real well with it. I thought my coil went bad so after talking to Sandy at minelab I sent both the machine and coil to them. Coil was good and now I wish that I had checked it before buying the new one. I see lots of questions and problems with this new machine and i am not sure that I am ready to give up the explorer 2 just yet. Even If I sell my main machine to get the new one I still have my backup explorer 2 to go back to. My friend either gets skunked or almost skunked every time we have been out. I don't think I can live with that.

I think that the Slimline is a little more sensitive than the stock 10.5" that comes on the Explorer II. More sensitive to higher sensitivity, more sensitive to getting knocked on beanstalks and other objects while swinging, and maybe more sensitive to some targets. But also a little less stable. And maybe it's the fact that you can run the old coil a little "hotter" or just that it's a little less sensitive to the undesirable targets and a little more sensitive to the desirable ones. I have found with my SE that I greatly prefer the 4.5 x 7 and the 10 x 14 Excelerator coils to the stock Slimline. And I also like the hell out of the Excelerator 12.5" coil. All are much more stable than the Slimline 10.5" and go deeper, with the exception of the 4.5 x 7 which I believe goes AS deep.

I think I am going to with my 8" ML coil for awhile. I've been reading some of the more recent posts on that coil and they all are positive so far. I think I am expecting a bit more from the SE Slimline over the stock coil on the EXII than I thought. I am going to use it again and give it some time and it should be fine. I plan on getting the WOT next.
