SE/8x6 silver finds for 2011

I thought it was about time I contributed something to show my appreciation to Findmall and especially this forum! I have lurked and learned a lot from you guys and never done anything for you all. I am posting my finds for Jan. Most of this was found in a field where carnivals were held in my area. I hunted it myself 35 years ago and its been pounded ever since that time by a lot of hunters. Most of these coins came from 7 to 9 inches down mixed in with a bunch of iron. I almost hate to tell it because I'm afraid some people won't believe it, but the silver half was between 10 and 12 inches deep. I also dug several Wheats during my three hunts at this site, and a bunch of iron junk. I Appreciate everything guys and I'm learning from some of the best! Thanks to everybody!

Thanks Captn, I appreciate your comments. I am new with the Minelab brand, and was really intimidated with the thought of trying to learn a different brand of detector. I just set the the thing in a corner and admired it from a distance, until I finished Andy Sabisch book. Andy's book gave me the confidence I needed to get out and give her a try. What and amazing detector, I am really impressed by its depth and the Smart Find feature is awesome in helping to decide whether to dig or not. Thanks.

Wow, nice silver! I love those carnival/fairground sites, hit the trashiest spots. They are the spots that other detectorists avoid, to our benefit!

Way to go Bobby...........The SE is a real scavenger when it comes to finding silver etc...and deep as well. I've had mine since about Sept 09 and it's basically paid for itself..

Very nice finds Bobby and glad to hear that you are back in the hobby. I've only been detecting for about eight years and to not be able to enjoy this wonderful hobby, well..................... you might as well cut off my arms and legs!!! GL & HH on your next outing. Del, That 8x6 is doing a good job for me! Do you have any more hot coils you would like to part with? I also have the 1050 FBS, but never even used it, because all the places I hunt are fairly trashy and that ole 8x6 seems to be just right for the job.

I was kind of disappointed this past Sat afternoon by my hunting partner who uses a F75. He dug several silvers on a vacant city lot and I didn't dig a single one. What a let down that was! It caused me to wonder if I had made a wise choice in choosing to learn the SE, because I had purchased an F75 and used it for a while, but deciced to sell it and purchase the SE. Anyway, I was impressed with the finds he made and the speed at which he could cover the ground and still make good finds even following along behind me. Disillusioned is the best word to describe how I felt. I can only say that Bryce's advice and advice of others on this forum to hunt in default settings, until you get familiar with this machine is almost a must. I was able to dig the deepies at the fairground I've been hunting because I had set it to hunt deep. I forgot to return to the default setting when hunting in front of my buddy with the F75 on the vacant city lot. I corrected my act of rebellion and now am in tune with this SE again. I will say, however that I have more appreciation for the F75 as a result of his success with it, but He experienced too much uncertainty with his Audio and visual disc when trying to decide whether to dig the deepies at the fairground. I am still impressed with the SE and looking forward to more hunts! "Lord Willing!" Thanks for the all the comments!
