I see quite a few posts here about depth so thought it a good opportunity to ask. I have an EXII that I have used for several years and know the machine quite well. Bought an SE, put around 60 hours on it. There is no way the depth is as good on the SE compared to the EXII. The EXII seems to get about an extra 1 to 2 inches, and that's in KY soil, not sandy places. Sand means nothing here in KY. The sparation is far better on the SE as is the pinpoint, but depth? Not so far.

Is there anyone in the IN, OH, VA, TN, KY, MO, areas that can atest to the accuracy of the depth differences between the SE and the EXII? Am I wrong or what?
 
I have owned and used and explorer 2 for about 2 years i then sold it last year i knew at the time i was making a mistake but i sold it because i was broke. Earlier this year i bought an explorer SE as i came into a little money just enough to buy an ex demo SE. Unpacking the SE i was happy with the looks of the detector , it looks very professional and sleek very nice. I then took a close look at the new type of coil that comes supplied with the SE, Looking closely i came to the conclusion that this coil looks a little dicey, smaller than the explorer 2 coil and thinner , i then decided to take a look underneath the coil with the coil cover removed , looking closely the quality of the resin seal underneath looks poorly put together in my opinion no where near as good as the explorer 2 coil quality, needless to say it was a faulty coil and had to be replaced 2 months later , i had problems with falsing in the wet and falsing in the dry too but to a lesser extent in the dry. The depth is no where near as close to the explorer 2 depth with this coil . I found the SE worked better on iron infested sites but lacks the punch of the explorer 2. Its the coil that is lacking depth i am sure. I now am considering selling the SE as it cannot compare to the explorer 2 on depth. No way. Honestly is lacks a few inches depth over the explorer 2. The simple fact is that faster detectors do not go as deep as slower ones like the explorer 2.

Set up with no discrimination, the SE will play tag with most any machine on the market.
Its all in how you use it. The more you ask it to do the more it takes to do it. Put the power where it counts.
Just my opinion.
 
Setting the machine with zero discrim results in a myriad of false signals, and bit targets that set on the outer fringe of the coil even though they pinpoint dead center. Lots of holes, and not much result. I can dig all metal holes with an old CZ machine and get nail heads at a foot, but who wants to? Defeating the machines settings is a waste. I can run with iron mask set way over to the left at around 12 on the EXII and get deep signals that hit pretty accurately on the meter. I don't know what I'm going to get with the SE set the same way when the signal is deep. Mostly zip. Don't get me wrong, the SE seems to have a niche, which is trashy areas or good targets very close to bad ones. The best I've seen for this purpose, but the only issue being addressed here is depth, and so far the SE isn't comparable to the EXII.

Now you might come back with "this guys an amateur". Doesn't wash. I've been detecting for over 30 years. Been to Europe detecting 8 times, all kinds of conditions, lived in three states, and owned over 20 detectors over the years. I can use an EXII with anybody, anytime, any where, and in any conditions. At this point I am still getting better depth than I have gotten so far with the SE. I've given it more than enough time, and tried it heavily in three states. Where's the beef?
 
Appreciate the vote of confidence, but still would like to know if you set an SE and an EXII on the same open settings wouldn't you dig fewer holes with the EXII, and deeper targets? I think so. Not challenging your settings.
