SE finds, Dug allot of iron to get these.

Below, Are a total 5.5 hours of finds with the SE at a pounded park......During the past two years, We would hunt for hours on end with our Explorers and if lucky get a wheat penny or silver coin for our efforts. Like the buffalo, The herd disappeared and most of the time it was rusty nails that filled out pouches because we were going after the weaker crazy signals.

Those from my area know which park I'll talking about, So this would be the perfect park to try out the SE.

The days of pulling out 6 or even more silver per day from this park are long gone, Now we're lucky a wheat penny or silver will surface and that's once in a blue moon.

Today, Hunting with a friend "Steven," The last signal was a two way high right curser but then would bounce into the iron zone with a soft ferrous sound, Back and forth she read good and bad but the high pitch sound was there. Down about 6.5 to 7" inches was a worn barber dime and about 3-4 inches away was a large rusty nail, It was obvious the large rusty nail had masked out the thin barber dime from our old Explorers.

Below, Are 7 coins and one silver ring. Two mercs, three wheat pennies, one buffalo nickel and one thin 1905 barber dime. Plus, A hunk of rusty nails that are from broken signals and fooled me, I went for these in hopes of getting an old coin.

The deepest coin was at 10" inches, One of the wheat pennies.

Thanks for looking, Paul (Ca)

Very interesting and helpful post. Good going with that new SE. It seems it has some improvement over the explorer, but still had to dig 78% junk to get the good stuff. Thanks for the post and good information.

This post finally made it necessary for me to register, just so I can say thank you. It's the one I've been waiting on now for a couple of weeks. I've been running the Explorer II for two years now, and I've learned just how crappy a really deep or worn keeper can sound. I too dig my share of square nails and such. Nice diggins and thanks again for your post.

Looks like the SE is having a good day for a few folks. Way to go Paul. You convinced me to start digging those iffy targets again. Just wish the ground was a little softer, won't be long though.

Jerry/Oregon

Thanks Doug,

That's the approach needed to capture the last remaining coins from pounded parks, Dig allot of those weaker crazy signals which most of the time turn out to be rusty nails or pieces of iron. What little is left from the easy pickings we enjoyed when the Explorer first came out are coins on edge, In between trash or masked by iron.

One of the improvements is the recovery speed, The audio recovery speed is quicker and I believe this helped the SE get the barber dime laying beside the large rusty nail. Plus, I do see a slight depth increase, Not much but enough for an edge.

Thanks JAB,

As you know, In the real world of metal detecting we do dig allot of trash, Tons of rusty or square nails to get a keeper and that's if we're lucky :)

Patience, Nothing comes easy :)

Thanks again,
Paul (Ca)

Thanks Jerry,

Some of those iffy signals are old coins, Check them out and you'll increase the finds for sure :)

Thanks again, Paul (Ca)

Hey Paul, I see you dig some of those odd lumped iron mass on nails also. I have been digging them for years now, I thought I was the only one digging them, sometimes they will make the nail sound just like a really deep coin. Good finds in your "hunted out" place.

:minelab:You're right on Old California..... the new SE does have some fairly sound improvements over the EXII and the XS.....whether some wish to believe it or not. You certainly sound like the type of hunter who will always be successful at finding the good stuff! Excellent and informative post.

can you still do it with the SE model? Those are some nice finds, what did the others find? did you compare signals with the older Explorer? I should be getting my SE soon and I have a park that has dried up after over a year of three days a week hunting there by many others, we will see what the SE can find. Happy trails 2U.

Very nice finds and Congratulations and hope you get many more of them but less of the iron.

Thanks Chuck,

Like the wild Buffalo, finding old park coins have almost disappeared due to the Explorer XS and Explorer II.

Now, I see an opportunity with the SE to capture the remaining few our older explorers missed. It won't be easy but the SE does have an edge and it's up to the SE user to take advantage of the new features and performance, Some may not believe it or wish not too but the proof is there for those that take advantage and use the improvements.

Thanks again :)

Thanks Eddie,

Iron is ok, Since I'm more of a relic hunter the iron "rusty nails" make me feel at home diging up a few old coins from an old park :)

Thanks again,
Paul (Ca)

Hey Lawrenzo,

When we get together in the fall, I'm going to fasten this SE to your arm and take you to an old park you your area. Them old Indians pennies and buffalo nickels don't stand a chance :)

See you in the fall,
Paul (Ca)

Thanks Steve,

You're not kidding, Them lumpy iron nails sure can fool us. All part of the game of searching for deep silver, Only some how we tend to find more rusty nails :)

Thanks again,
Paul (Ca)

Thanks Arturo de Zorro,

Ferrous mode with Iron mask set at all-metal is the only set-up I use for all hunting conditions, This set-up gives the Explorer an edge searching extremely trashy areas which reduces masking. Like the older Explorers the SE model has this feature as well, Sounds like you're already using it.

Haven't had a chance to compare it against my XS but will soon, My friend Steven did find one wheat penny.

Thanks again,
Paul (Ca)

Thanks jb,

Honestly, I don't mind digging allot of rusty iron. I'm more of a relic hunter than park hunter so the iron makes me feel at home :)

Thanks again,
Paul (Ca)

I have a park that you can spend an entire day at and not get anything. Sounds like I have to take the Explorer SE to this park and see if I have the same results as you did. Thanks for the post and letting us know that the New Explorer SE can still pull coins from worked out Parks that have been prevously pounded with the Explorer XS's and the Explorer II's. Good Luck and HH.
