SE help me figure this out please

Ok,
So I have an Se pro that Im pretty good with and for the next couple weeks I have my dream job, a paying gig detecting the San Jacinto battlefield for an archeological survey. The problem is several times today I got what seemed to be really bad interference. There were other detectors around but that has never been a problem before. There were also power lines above but again its never been a problem before. What would happen is my cursor would start jumping all over the place and I would start getting a crazy barrage of all different nonstop tones. Ground balancing did not help and neither did turing down sensitivity although I never turned it down bellow 24 or so. Two factors may have been influencing it or may not, 1. crazy as it sounds it seemed to happen when the wind blows hard, and 2. It only happened after my detector had been on and hunting for a while. Any ideas of what it could be or what I could do? I am back out there Friday and am hoping it is something I can solve for by then and not something that requires repair.

Did you try noise canceling again? I would also keep dropping the sensitivity down to see if it would clear up. Another option is use auto sensitivity. Hope this helps.

Try using the AA battery pack in lieu of the rechargeable. I had that problem once and noticed it when the wind blew and found my upper cable connection was not tight..... disconnect it and retighten it. Ive never found a need for more than 24 sensitivity you might even switch over to auto sens at say 26. Reset to factory settings... sometimes you just need to reboot the reset your settings. Could be those detectors are PIs im not sure you can air balance them out much like some of those hand held pinpointers. Might be under ground lines as well. Try switching to Ferr sounds with say 26 disc .... Ferr seems to be a little quieter.... but im betting some of those detectors are PI.

My best guess would be loose coil connection as DEW has suggested. Hope you get it figured out.

the archeological stewards are all using garret pinpointers all around me. Are those pulse induction? Could that be the cause?

another thing are...are you keeping your coil clean with the least dirt possible? if your getting too much dirt stuck on the coil minerals in the soil could be messing with your detector...unlikely, but possible.

Hi, Bell.
Set your detector at home, like you were performing an air test, far from metal objects, etc. Turn it on and leave it on for 1 hour or more. Watch if problem replicates, if so it must be that your machine is faulty. The wind thing looks just like a coincidence to me.

If nothing happens then the culprit may be some strong interference that comes from near the machine, maybe some piece of electronics that you are carrying in your pockets?

Those pinpointers and other detectors will cause the symptoms you are talking about. You'll often need to be 30-40 feet away from others unless you turn the sensitivity way down. Noise canceling may help a little. If it REALLY only happens after an hour or so you may have a bad connection somewhere.

try to go away from power lines and other detectors, if its will starts to work ok, problem power or other detectors if not, try other coil and check coil connection..easy can by coil problem.

Talked to a couple other guys who had the same issues there today so I feel better. We were working in a cemetary on the battlefield. We decided its the ghost of Santa Anna.
