Hello,

I have read the manual and mastering SE book......I still have several question and I am confused on certain things. Anyone care to answer a few questions??? If you have the book, that would help too as the question are mostly based from there.

thanks

The question are mostly programming ones......thanks:wacko:

As far as programing goes. The best advice out there is stay in factory settings till you get the hang of things.

I am starting to get the hang of things but would like to understand the programming aspects better....the books tell alot but dont explain all....

Let me know if your up to the task thanks

Start dropping the questions im sure there are several of us who can answer them for you.

Lets see 'em!

Keep in mind, the best way to learn this incredible machine is to get very accustomed to it in factory defaults. Then make one change at a time. AND DIG A LOT!

If you have questions though James...like Dew said...there's a ton of good fellers' here to help you.

Just don't try too much too fast...or you will start searching for the nearest tree. WHY??....so you can wrap the machine around it:cool:

Thanks guys.

I understand the frustration aspect of this machine but actually didnt last long especially hearing about it on here. I see it a fairly complex but not unlearnable. I do like the machine and have found about 60 coins, old badge, 9 toy cars, ring and earring and of course lots of trash. A couple of days ago...I was at a park...started out....and the light went off in my head.....I went from coin to coin to coin in fairly fast pace...was my best day for understanding and "hearing" the machine. In some, Ive come along ways in a short time.

My questions are probably simple but hear goes.....Bryce....in the exp book...it says on your deep coin program......to check some and x out 1...what about the others....are they checked ....or left blank? As I saw it....it was not complete. Maybe you could shed some light on that?

I will look again at the book and see what other questions I have and post them soon

Thanksssssssssssssssssss all

James

I don't "X"...or "check" anything. I leave all of that to factory preset settings. Whatever that setup is in preset is how it remains.:)
You might have my setup confused with someone else's?

Take care...and let me know if you have other questions.

Sorry I thought you had a deep coin program listed in the book....I will check the book again.

when one puts a program into the SE....do you just go to the save options area and click the s1 to s6? When your using the detector ...is there a easy/fast way to get to s1 to s6? Do you have to go thru lots of keystrokes to get there? I would think there is a fast way...tried and looked in the book but maybe I overlooked it.

Since we are there......the deep coin program list in the book on page 115....maybe I mispoke....settings not program....arent they the same?

My next is......I would like to try these 'settings", but I also would like to have original factory presets and compare the 2 in the field. Cant I do that? 1 in default and 1 in saved programs?

Another question....

The gold program on page 129.....it states some are checked and 1 is x out....what happens with the rest? Are they checked or left blank or??? Once entere the appropiate info......do I go to menu...then saved options......then press unused s1 to s6? The saved section confuses me....sometimes I get one thing and sometimes factory presets and then have problems getting them changed or out....I think something was left out in the book or maybe I just dont understand correctly.

thanks
James

Yes they are...but you stated...."My questions are probably simple but hear goes.....Bryce....in the exp book...it says on your deep coin program......to check some and x out 1...what about the others....are they checked ....or left blank?"

There is nothing stated in my settings from Andy's book that mentions that?

"My next is......I would like to try these 'settings", but I also would like to have original factory presets and compare the 2 in the field. Cant I do that? 1 in default and 1 in saved programs?"

I think that can easily done but you would be best to follow how the manual states to do it...so I don't mes you up:biggrin:

You are right about your settings...it was the gold program on page 129.....arent setting and programs the same?

Is the only purpose for smartfind is that a easy way to check for probable good coins in a certain area? In other words....this makes it easier to recognize good targets in a given target area rather than have remember Fe and Co ID in digital mode? Does smartfind give anything else that digital does not? Anything wrong with running digital all the time?

On Mikes killer coin settings......page 116....it says to put recovery in fast & deep ON.....I have read or viewed video that says to....NOT put both on at the same time as it confuses the detector....I have heard use one or the other in ON position but not both at the same time.....Which kinda makes sense...then I see these settings and dont know what to think. Any input?

On the gold program page 129.......several items are checked.....1 in x out.......what are done with the other ones? Blank or??? The book does not explain what to do with the other items...such as nail, fe coins etc. I assume it to x them out also but I could be wrong....Am I?

You can save both your user settings and factory settings to USER SETTINGS. Put one in user A and the other in user B. Otherwise you have to hold down the botton when you start the detector to get back to factory preset. If you put one in say S1 and one in S2 that will work... provide you dont have both checked at the same time or anything else checked or Xed out. To save your current setting you can just hit MENU then SAVE DISCRIM then put it in one of the S1 thru 6 boxes. You can also overwrite one you dont want to use any longer. Personal preference on smartscreen or digital. I prefer the smartscreen simply because i can see the screen move quicker to either side of the screen. I check occassionally the digital reading. What you find is you use strickly digital as the deep coins bounce you get unreliable numbers all over the place so you dont dig. The smartscreen places those targets in a given location... if its a location close to a good targets ill dig. You can see what the target is doing and compare it to the tone you are getting. For me there might be a LOT more targets id just walk over if i only used a bouncing digital reading. Also having FAST on makes the TID less accurate. When you are disc targets... you simply check those you want and X those you dont. Those not checked or Xed are neither rejected or accepted. You can combine accepted and rejected to make unique patterns for hunting given areas. I reject nails and sometimes crown caps if i aint using IM. I also have certain pattern that ive made up using a combination of targets like coins and jewerly using the LEARN.

Mike has found what works in his area and for him. With the Explorer you will find certain tones are better for your hearing than others. Like for me i have my TH TONE set at 8 everything elce at 10. Ive found it really makes a difference as to how many dimes i pick up. Any canned program you plan to use should be from a hunter in your own area. As far as FAST and DEEP on i normally run them off. Most hunters will use FAST on in trashy areas. For me if it gets too trashy i like fast off... it gives a bit longer tone on good targets and the TID is more reliable. Thats the beauty of this machine everyone can set it up and have it work VERY effective for them. Thats another reason for starting out in factory settings then changing them one at a time to see how they affect your finds. Andys gold pattern is pretty complete. You are accepting those ranges where jewerly and coins fall. He gives you the option to REJECT coins if you are just looking for GOLD and not silver jewerly. What this does is COMBINES certain patterns to create ONE pattern to look for a given target.

Thanks dewcon.... I appreciate you taking the time to give me complete answers......most of what you say makes sense and some I now remember from the book. Thanks very much!
