Se Help? Only had a week

Thank you for your help to my questions.....I need further explanation on one of them......about the gold program......please take a look at it......I think it had coins, jewelry, foil, pulltab, screwcap are checked. Crowncap is X out. I assume that Crowncap doesnt fall in the same range as foil, pulltab & screwcap? I realize that those 3 are the same range as some jewelry & nickels....I think. What about the others? Nails, fe coins? Are those blank or X out?

Thanks again
James

Its more that crowncaps are HIGH pitched if you are using Farr sounds and there really isnt any jewerly that fall within that range worth the constant digging of those caps. So disc out crown caps especially where they are common is best. No need to X out anyothers because they will be ignored by the pattern you created. The best way to tell what affect each have is to go into SELECT and first CLEAR the screen. Then go down each option like nails ect and check them then X them then leave them blank. Once you do that you will have a better understanding of where each target falls on the smartscreen.... and thus a better idea of what combining them does. An example would be nails Xed and coins checked.... you wont notice the nails being Xed because its being ignored just by having ONLY coins checked. You cant mess anything up by setting in your living room playing with the options... its time well spent if you want to know how this machine works. You also need to do some air testing of targets you may want to find to learn the tones and adjust them to your likeing. You need as much seperation as you can get. Some people preferr to Ferr to Cond, but for me i use which ever is more practical in the area im hunting. If there are tons of crown caps and little iron id use Cond just because i hate the real high pitch of the crowncaps. Ive learned the sound iron makes as it comes off the halo or rusted iron, even so ill switch to Ferr where there is lots of rusted cans ect. Once you get better with the SE you will develope a pattern that works for various locations. Some people have found they change their settings very little. I use a modified nail disc pattern with everything elce open and hunt in Cond for the most part or IM 28 like Mike. Too many people give up on a machine because their finds drop when they swap machines..... finds dropping is pretty normal. I never buy a new machine until the one im using has payed for its self. By then i KNOW if its the right machine for me and my hunting method.

Thanks Dewcon for your really good answers!!!!!

funny thing about the explorers is that we can read and watch all the videos we want but we will never "master" it

You would think so....but I am getting the hang of it........up to about 250 coins, relics, antiques and tokens.....I am getting more accustomed to this detector every day.....I think it could be a keeper.....thanks
