SE-Safari

All you Se owners that has or use to ha a Safari which locks onto silver better? which is deeper on silver? I am trying to decide which to purchase, I have tried a Safari for three days and I liked the pinpointing feature, I have a Sovereign so it want be my first Minelab.

I've seen a lot of people trade up from the Safari to an Explorer, but I can't think of one person who has ever traded down from an Explorer to a Safari.

The Safari, no doubt, will find deeper targets in the trashy areas, but I doubt if the recovery time on the machine, or it's ability to ID deeper targets can match the Explorer SE. The Safari has FBS technology, just like the Explorers do, but so did the Quattro, and I believe the Safari to be an upgraded Quattro (faster processor, Pro coil, etc.). Even though the Quattro has been proven to find silver, no doubt, it was a much slower recovery machine than the SE, and it gave often-confusing mixed tones(high, then low), on the real deepies, where the Explorer would give a nice solid fluty high-tone on that same deep target.

I believe ML did the same with the Safari as whites did with the M6. They took the MXT which was to hot to hunt in a park and made it more trash friendly. But... in the open spaces you just cant beat the prower of the machines they were designed from.

Safari or Quattro just don't have the abilities of an Explorer so an Explorer would be my choice...

i never used safari, but if for change sensitivity you have to go to menu but not just pushing buttons up or down!!!!!- its something wrong with this product design!!!! buy second hand explorer and put pro coil and you will have the same depth!! good luck Stasys

I have a friend who uses the Safari and it is a nice machine. He does pretty well with it in trash.

My honest opinion is that there is no better machine on the market for hitting deep turf silver which other machines have missed....than the Explorers.

It ID's at depths other machines just can't duplicate IF you know what to listen for and also what little nuances to watch for on the screen.

There are some unbelievable deals on used Explorers right now too. I mean super GREAT deals for some reason.

Regardless of what coil it has on it...it will go deep.

My personal opinion would for you to give the Explorer a shot over the Safari.

The SE has a sweet ratcheting pinpoint feature that the EX2 doesn't...and it also ID's in said all metal pinpoint mode whereas the EX2 doesn't (just wanted to point that out in case your thinking of both the SE and EX2).

That feature alone has been an invaluable tool for me when making the final decision on whether or not to dig.

Thanks to all the fellers who replied, I tried a used Safari for 3 days and I found deep coins right off the Bat,I have always heard the Explorers were heavy I was surprised that its lighter than my GTI 2500 and easier to use. I used the Safari for hours without trouble nice detector but I think I will buy a new Se-Pro HH

I sold my etrac kept my safari loaned my safari to a friend of a friend he gave me his GTI 2500 for the weekend to play with found 6 silver dimes with 2500 deepest 7 inches does not pop,snap,crackle like ML or Fishers very good machine and I dug less junk.I would like to someone to tell me the differance between SE and Etrac if you want to play a lot with your machine get SE and or Etrac other wise stay with Safari or go to a 705 good machine You will double your hunting time and finds.
