Read Andy Sabich's book. Lot of good information

Yes, Andy's book. Eventually, you need to understand what each of the settings does, and the implications of changing it...that is really the best approach. In the mean time, use the factory defaults; Bryce advises that you use the factory settings for several hunts, until you begin to learn your machine.

Are you talking about the THRESHOLD TONES? If so, find a target about 6 to 8 inches and set them to your hearing. Ive found 8 works for me on coins deeper than 8 inches... i just hear that tone best. I think you will find 5 sounds a good bit like the whites machines. This is a setting that is your preference. Otherwise..... 10 for the other two just because i feel more tones separates targets like pull tabs and nickels better. However, some of the Euro guys do all kinds of wierd sounds. Tony hunt recommends a 10 1 1 for beginners.... but personally i dont care much for the sound. Slow n low uses a 1 10 10 which really gives you and echo over every target and in field hunting its interesting.
