Sea search coil

New member
Hi everyone newbie here,
Anyone ever see any of the old sea search coils for sale anywhere? If so, how much do they go for these days?
thanks, bottlebum

u want one

they were not made very well, did not last very long using them in the sand..........we are talking 90's............2007 now......many things have changed since that bird was around

:)

Hi Gravedigger,
I was just curious because I have been considering buying a new GT. Back in the late 90's I had purchased a Sovereign along with the seasearch coil (don't have the detector or coil any more) and I remember it being alot easier to use in the water than the coinsearch. Plus I seem to remember that a few years later, everyone was going crazy trying to find the coil because it was rumored to detect deeper than the 8 inch coin search coil? I havn't tried the new GT, my last one was an XS that also was sold.(Money was REAL tight back then) I am seriously considering the GT, especially after seeing some of the waterproofing ideas on this sight. I really don't want to spend the big bucks on an excalibur. I guess that the open design of the coil would work good underwater? Thanks for your reply

I remember the wonderful orange thing, Was it made by sunray?

WOT is a 15 inch coil made by Coiltec that some really like, these are sold by Doc in Las Vegas and many of the Minelab dealers. The S12 which is a 12 inch coil made by Sun Ray is my favorite big coil for my hunting.

Rick,

Thanks for the refresher. I've been out of the detecting scene for about eight years now. It's good to know that some of the same accessory coils that were available back when I hunted, are still available and being used.It tells me that they must be good. I can picture myself swinging a Sovereign GT with a nice 12 inch coil on a beach here in florida. One day soon I hope to have a GT. I really like what I'm reading about the newer machine.

Best of luck

The Minelab coil that was sort after, and still is, is the original solid white coil that runs a little smoother and deeper than the 800 open coil they fitted to later versions of the Sovereign.
One drawback is that its rainproof but not waterproof. You can use it without harm on the beach but if you start forcing it down into a rock pool then you risk it leaking.
