Finally got out yesterday to test the waters (well, ground). I just went to a place close by, and there was still lots of snow, but a few bare spots were finally showing through. Ranged anywhere from consistency of butter to still frozen solid. Lots of mud too.
Since I wouldn't be covering a lot of ground, I tried out the 8x6 SEF coil on the SE this time, and focused on the thawed spots (all areas I've gone over before at least once). Although I didn't manage any silver peeps, I did have some modest success, finding four wheats. That tells me it's worth trying the small coil there some more when conditions improve.
Fun to be out again. Sore today!
