SEF COIL FOR X TERRAS?

MEV

New member
Why do SEF coils are not made for x terras?

Tesoro, Garret, Fisher Whites, Minelab Sovereign, Explorer, E-Trac all of these do have SEF coils!!!

So why?????

.

They haven't been licensed by MineLab to produce V-Flex technology products.
The Coiltek 15" WOT is the only aftermarket coil licensed and approved by MineLab.

my theory is VFLEX is on the way out and they have a new machine coming and don't want to spend money on coils for the VFLEX machines its the only logical answer overwise they would be giving us what we need, having said that minelab are not renowned for coils its not high on their list look at the FBS machines they make 2 coils for 1000 $ plus machines think about that and ponder?

I've got detectors that only operate at one freqeuency. I've got detectors who's coils operate on multiple frequencies simultaneously. And I've got detectors that operate at one frequency, but share coils with a different model that operates on a totally different frequency or frequencies. The technology behind building coils for the X-TERRA requires something these other detectors don't have......VFLEX. VFLEX technology incorporates a microchip in the coil that allows the coil and detector to communicate digitally. This microchip must be precisely in-sync with the microprocessor of the detector to operate at one specific transmit frequency, as designed. Apparently Minelab only wants to license this technology with a limited number of manufacturers........... .. Coiltec and themselves. As the inventor of the product and holder of the patent, that is their perrogative. As many of you know, there is another manufacturer currently making coils that are advertised as being compatible with the X-TERRA. I don't want this string of posts to get into a discussion about a company who infringed on Minelab's patent, and does not sponsor these forums. However, let me say that microtechnology, as used in the X-TERRA, has the capability of allowing a manufacturer to "lock out" any accessory coil, other than those proprietarily programmed to work with their detectors. Frankly, if I had invented VFLEX and had some other company pirating my technology to sell coils that I had not licensed, I'd implement the "lock out" technology in my detectors in a heartbeat!

I've been suggesting a small 3kHz DD coil for more than 4 years. Several of you have joined in this request. At this point in time, our wishes have not been granted! But I would like to point out that attempts have apparently been made to enhance the "coil lineup". During the past several years I've found several "prototype" X-TERRA coils listed on ebay and the classified forum. I managed to purchase a couple of them, but missed out on another. My point is..... these 3 coils were made by Minelab. And if they had worked as designed, you can bet that Minelab would have jumped at the chance to market them. Unfortunately, the people who tested them felt they were not up to Minelab standards. Personally, if there is something worse than not being able to spend $$$ on a coil that is currenlty not manufacutured, it is spending $$$ on a coil that doesn't work as designed. Minelab does a good job of making sure a product meets ALL criteria before turning it loose on the public. And I appreciate that!

As to the comment regarding the demise of VFLEX......:rofl::rofl:

well geese even my reverse psychology isn't working  why is the 3 khz DD coil harder to make and work well it can not be that hard? they must have the molds to make a 6" coil there is the HF 6" coil, why not make some with the 3khz chip and be done with it?

i want to see how it does on silver in so called hunted out parks, i love my 705 but have put it down because i don't have the coil i need and been using the etrac and there in lies my conspiracy theory why there is no 3 khz coil for the xterra its so people buy the etrac and it was a deciding factor for me to buy the etrac so its not a theory it works !!

just my thoughts on the subject

When I first started talking to them about it, that was exactly my suggestion.......stick a different chip in the 6-inch HF DD. :nerd: Apparently it doesn't work that way. :rage: My next thought was to put a chip in an Advantage TS800 Slimline coil and make it smart! :nerd: It seems we discovered one of the many reasons I'm not an electronic design engineer. From what I gather, 3 kHz requires larger ga wiring and more windings. My guess is that they are working on it as they are aware of the demand. Regardless, I'm convinced the X-TERRA is not going away. In fact, with the VFLEX technolgy supporting it, I can see it going forward for a long time. JMHO HH Randy

you and me both Randy me no electronics whizz either, thanks for writing down what you know there is some hope that is good  really now its the only tool missing from my line up, lets hope they can squeeze those wires in to a little round baby for all us expecting uum well you know what i mean.

love the xterra great machine just need baby coil with LF DD windings

Fixed it for 'ya. :smoke:

I'll take any LF DD that comes along. If it's 6", that will be fine. If it's 10.5", that will do as well. And if it's a 15", that would be cool too. I just hope that I don't have to sell a kidney to afford one, or die of old age before they're released.
