SEF Coil Wiring Cross Reference for Minelab Sovereign and Excalibur

I put this matrix together to assist those who desire to install (splice or hardwire) a Detech SEF coil on their Minelab Excalibur. Enjoy!

A day late and a dollar short, but still a great job. The thread I did on this a few days back lists that info as well. You just need to go to Coil Tech's website and see the color charts they have for the Excaliber. They list the old and new Excaliber wire colors (they swapped a few and it won't work if you hook it up the old way on a newer Excalibur). You can then easily figure which goes to what based on what I listed, but your chart is much more to the point. Can you add the various color code wire changes they show for various Excals so people don't mess up. Hook it up the old way and you lose the threshold. The wires are the same, it's just that they swapped the colors on a few.

Thanks for the feedback and recommendation. I'll update the matrix to include wiring for all Excal versions. I have several Excals (all versions) and intend to open them all up as I do routine seal maintenance and photograph the wiring. I'll post at some point in the future. I found that information for hard wiring the SEF coil the Excal was lacking on the forums. I have not been able to locate a Detech website or any technical information for the SEF coils.

I have a WOT on order and will be installing it on an Excal 1000 in the next week or so. I intend to update the matrix with the information as I performed that mod as well so that we'll have a "one stop shopping list" for Excal coil wiring. I haven't been on Doc's website as of yet since the WOT coil has been on backorder. Hopefully I'll have it later this week. Once installed, I'll do some comparison testing between the SEF 12x15 and the WOT and post the results as well. Will advise.

That would be great. My problem was that there was no existing SEF color code info on the web that I could find. I needed to confirm internal coil readings to tell if the previous repair job somebody did on this coil had the right wires to the right pins. With proper readings taken at various pins and some SEF comparison readings taken by Kered on the coil plug of his SEF, I was able to firm things up and know the right colors were in place with the right pins. Coil Tech has several charts showing the differences in Excals and wire colors, but of course they didn't have any information that would tell me what an SEF coil's color codes were. They only list the WOT and a few other things. Once I figured out what the proper color codes were on the SEF it would have been a simple matter to look on Coil Tech's site and see which pins those wires would go to for various Excals. But, that wasn't my intention. I was just trying to fix the coil connector on this 12x10 so that I could use it on my GT. Either way, nice job of making a chart with all the info listed side by side for Excal conversions.

Great info, i have saved it for future reference too as my excalibur is just about out of warrenty and the Sef 12x10 is doing very little at mo

When you say old and new. Whats the cutoff between old and newer? I have a blue headphone model which I guess is kinda in the middle.
