SEF Coil ?

SWMO Mark

New member
I was wondering if anyone had tried the 12x15 SEF coil on their Safari? I am thinking about getting one, mostly for relic hunting.

I considered the 12 x 15 SEF and the the 15" WOT but ended up with the WOT for relic hunting. It is now my main coil whenever I am in a field because of the extra coverage. The WOT is a little lighter than the SEF and it takes full advantage of the FBS technology.

Just a humble opinion,
TomH

Tom, I am not sure what you mean by- It takes full advantage of the FBS technology. Could you explain. Thanks, Mark

Mark,

From what I was told, Coiltek was originally the coil manufacturer for all Minelab machines until Minelab started making them themselves, at which time Coiltek retained the rights to produce after-market coils for the Minelabs. The WOT coils were specifically designed to take advantage of the Minelab technology.
I have not used the SEF coil on the Safari but the WOT knocks it out of the park. At the last DIV I was able to find two 5/8 inch pieces of camp lead at more than a foot deep in some of the reddest soil on the location. I have even used it in trashy areas and the target seperation was not lost. The only downside is that in very mineralized soil it tends to false a little more than the stock coil, but if you ignore the false signals and concentrate on repeatable signals you can get incredible depth.

Just a humble opinion,
TomH

wyohunter99,

I went to the WOT for the extra coverage. I generally hunt in fairly large fields with a limited amount of time available so the extra 5 inches of signal width makes a big difference when you are trying to cover as much ground as possible. If I am not trying to cover 40 acres in four hours I still use the pro coil but the bigger coil is my first choice in a big field.
