Finally got out with the SE. I kept the sensitivity on 'auto' set at a level of 25...very smooth tone. Just for fun, I tried the manual setting at the same level. Noticed a bit more "clutter" in the threshold, but not distracting. I got a deep, repeatable consistent signal and recovered a very deep clad quarter (which should have been a barber at that depth!!). Don't know how it got that deep, but it was in the side of the hole with just the rim showing at a measured 10". Before I removed it, I switched back over to auto and didn't pick up the quarter. I could still get the signal in manual, however.
Does anyone know just how far the auto sensitivity puts the machine below the stated setting to achieve stability? This could make a big difference in how I hunt. If the machine is constantly stabilizing the signal, I can't see why I shouldn't keep it at a setting of 32 all the time in auto.
Comments and observations welcome!
