Sent the GTI in for the chip upgrade

I found out that my new GTI 2500 doesn't have the mineralization chip update, so off it goes to Texas. In case anyone is wondering, serial numbers before 3610**** do not have the chip.

Can anyone give me an idea of how long something like this will take? I'm not in a big hurry since it's winter, but it would be nice to know. I sent a coil in to Tesoro in the beginning of December, and I haven't gotten it back yet. Can I expect this upgrade to take 6 or more weeks, or is Garrett quicker than that?

Thanks,

Dan

Garrett is quicker.Should take two or three weeks depending. Mine took over thre weeks but I wasn't in a hurry and it was free so can't gripe. :)

As far as I know, there is no charge. Maybe it's because my machine is brand new and still under warranty?? It might be worth sending Melinda an e-mail and asking her.

I keep hearing about this "mineral chip" or "mineralization chip". I take it that since I do not have problems with mineralized soil, it isn't something I really need to concern myself with?

Supposedly the chip will give a little extra depth. I don't know if that is only in mineralized soil though. In my case, I do have very high salt content in the soil, so I want the chip. Besides, it would drive me crazy knowing that there was an upgrade waiting that I didn't take advantage of.

Sent mine to Texas from Nebraska took 12 days for the chip.

And was free...It is well worth it, It is smoother in medium to hot ground. Which means more depth. Is still very sensitive machine.

Yeah it's for highly mineralized ground. It was installed at the request of the boys in Australia who have some of the worst ground there is, especially for nuggetshooting.

Yeah I think it's free if you're still under warranty, otherwise I think it's about forty bucks for the chip and shipping.

It was the 12 days from when I sent it till it was back at my door.
