Settings for f-75 :help:

C.J.M.

Well-known member
Just bought a f-75 ,i have sandy soil where i live was wondering if anyone has a setting to start on disc mode, and all -metal mode?Would appreciate settings on both hunting modes.Thank you.cjm:thumbup::fisher:

For old coin hunting I run in de mode, 3H tones, sen. typically around 85-90 as long as its stable, D.S.T. off (if yours has it) and no notch. Hardly ever do I have to use D.S.T. I do use boost mode on occasion when the grass is tall and or, when woods hunting. I personally seldom use all metal. HH jim tn.

jim tn..What do you feel is the advantage of D.S.T. off compared to having it on. Thanks...miserman

Maybe its just my imagination, but both my hunting buddy and I feel with it off our 75's get a tad bit more depth. If my 75 is stable with it off, why have DST on, is my thinking? HH jim tn

Hmmmmm---------:confused:why not leave DST on and use the boost mode for more depth.if depth is the issue:shrug::look:

Boost isn't always that much deeper than DE at every site, entails moving the coil slower and is more affected by EMI.
Even if DST does quiet down the unit in high EMI areas using boost so you can hardly see it's effects that doesn't mean the detector isn't reacting differently as it would be with no DST where you could see the effect of your settings and behavior.
Sometimes there are advantages using DST, sometimes there are not...I assume since I never owned a detector that had that feature.
I can tell you the exact same thing can be said of boost because I have turned that feature on and off for many hundreds of hours in my travels.
Sometimes it is an advantage to use it, sometimes not.

That is the cool thing about these things, so many different settings to adjust and play with to match different sites and conditions...if you choose to do that.

Just to clarify my comments I believe that there are many ways to use these tools to be successful, not just one way and each of us perceives things differently.
Some find a ton with boost and gain on lower settings, others with no boost and higher gain.
Some use DST all the time and demand quieter hunting, others don't use it all the time or don't have it available and don't mind dealing with more noise and chatter.
Some use only all metal, others never have and never will.
Settings that one hunter uses some settings very successfully might be confoundingly confusing or completely unintelligible to another.
When new just try different ones and see what happens...eventually you will find what works best.

Excellent question C.J.M. The answers lie within YOUR experimentation/testing for YOUR ground and EMI conditions.

Unfortunately there is no "one size fits all" when it comes to metal detecting. The settings you will eventually use will have to depend on the conditions in your area, and what type of hunting you do. I would start with the Default Process (dE) and experiment with the tones. There is a lot of different ways to setup the F75 to get it's optimum performance, depending on your preferences as to tones, discrimination level, and process used. Lots of experimenting is the only way to get that best performance for your circumstances.

A simple air test with DST on, compared to DST off should give you an idea of any difference in depth. Personally, I usually leave my DST on when detecting in areas in and around city parks etc. When I first got my DST model there was no perceptible difference on or off depthwise. You may experience differently, so do a quick check.

Air Test are OK but you have to play the cards delt at your location. For example: There is a place I hunt for CW relics where CST makes a big difference go 200 yards and results are much better with it off. Experiment where you hunt some times a big difference with a small turn of a knob. HH :fisher::minelab:
