Shape of mono coil field ??

Tony

Member
I keep hearing/reading that the shape of the transmit field is "cone shaped" but I am finding it is more like a "U" shape with the bottom of the U flattened somewhat......the "U" as you are seeing it right here as a letter is my idea of the transmit pattern.

My buried test target at 16" can be detected when edging with the side of the coil and is only marginally stronger at the center of the coil.

It is almost like the DD search pattern with deep detection across the width of the coil and not just the center.

I was surprised at the depth of detection when edging the target area with the side of the coil and therefore concluded that the cone shaped pattern doesn't fit?

Tony.

Mono/concentric "cones" and dd "blades" are largely myths created by simplified diagrams and perpetuated by marketing gurus.

I'm glad you mentioned that Steve because I thought I was going crazy with my conclusions.....

Thanks,
Tony.
