I had planned to post my gold for 2008 around 1/1 but my life has been pretty hectic to say the least. My best friend was hospitalized around New Years day. A few days after that I suddenly lost a friend. Then late last Friday I lost my pal Tommy. I am still in shock. Oddly, the two friends that passed are the only two fellas who really looked forward to seeing my finds. In fact, they usually initiated conversations about my latest digs while most folks merely listen politely to my stories.

Anyway, I have been avoiding the board only because that depresses me too. It has been real cold here. There are two days in the upcoming week where the forecast high is sub zero. Every time I see a grassy park or a school on TV I get an itch that I know I won't be able to scratch for a while. On January 2, I went out and bought a huge bag of silver dimes and figured it would keep my mind from thinking sadder thoughts and that it would take me several weeks to sort through them. It basically took me one week and I found some neat stuff. There were 87 Barbers in the mix which was supposed to be all Mercs and Rosies. I lucked into one 1921 Merc, three 1926S's and a few other semi keys. There were about 10 complete sets of Rosies in OK shape all missing the 1949S.

I read a few pages worth of posts. Glad some of you are getting out. John in Edmonton you are a sick man hunting in that weather. Enjoyed seeing the silver coins (Australian Shilling and Walking Lib especially) and jewelry.

Here is my 2008 gold which I photographed about two weeks ago. Slightly over 1 1/2 ounces total, and slightly less than one ounce of pure gold.

Chris

Sorry about your friends. I lost one before Christmas and it's not the same. My few hunts in 2009 netted me junk. No silver or gold yet. You gold kind of revs me up to get out! Nice!!

Bad start for you so far this year.
Hope things turn around for the rest of 2009..

I think that is the way life is. Cherish what you have while you have it. Be the person that makes a difference in other people's life's.
This year has given me a lot of tears so far. Just hope that I made a difference in the lives of the people that leave me.

The consolation is, the good memories that you have.

Me too also. I haven't even been able to get out. Just sit inside and stare at the rotten weather. We were supposed to have sun for a week but the weather geek flubbed his dub again and it's raining.

Yeah, my sister lost her husband a few days before Christmas. The daughter lives with her because her husband took his life the year before. While my sister was going with her husband for chemo, she had a heart attack and had to have bypass surgery right there and then. We have this consolation in our Saviour, that when it's over it's not over. We will all meet again.

Great finds Chris!
Sorry to hear you're having a bit of a rough trot. Hopefully the new year will get better for you.
Mick Evans.

Chris: Sorry to hear about the bad start to your year. Your finds are always an inspiration for me to get out and your willingness to provide advice is greatly appreciated.

I hope things get better for you Chris. Cheer up!!!!!!!! you still have us to listen to your stories!:cheekkiss:

Sorry to hear about your friends, Chris, but sadly we have all gone down that road, We just lost my wifes sister just before Christmas, she was mentally challenged and had lived with us for 22 years then 2 weeks later we lost a neighbour and good friend of 40 years.Just remember the memories and the good times and the knowing that they are in a far better place were there is no pain or suffering. Hang in there buddy. By the way Great finda. HH Ken
