Short Coin Popping Junk-ette gets the Quota......

Took a spin to dirt church this morning. When I got up, I poured a cup of java and got the computer cranked up. Then, I stepped outside for the requisite weather check. I found it was Early Morning Glorious - a sharp, solid chill, the kind that makes your arm hairs stand up. Perfect!

Now, my family doesn't share my love of the seasons. In fact, they have been bleating like sheep lately about the cold - bunch of cry babies, the lot of them.
I told them they need to move to Minnesota for awhile, like I did. That'll put some steel in 'em. A few seasons there and what we laughingly call winter here in SC will seem like a hot house to 'em.

"Matter of fact," I told them, "I have family there still, with big farms; they might could use some extra help...
You know, the foods real good up there, and there's plenty of it. 'Bout all there is to do there, in fact - eat and work. Should I make a few calls?"
They fell strangely quiet after I said that.

Me, I think the weather is just dandy. A cool 38 degrees, the sun shining. The trees are turning and it is fall again! Oh sweet Autumn, when Nature dons her nightcap and turns her plans to sleep. The only season I like better is Winters barren apex. That's when the lakes freeze and it's ICE FISHIIIIING time!

This AM, with visions of lunker crappie coming up through the ice, I pulled out and headed to one of my favorite spots:

This is a rock climbing wall that the city put up, to satisfy the urppies'* urge to dangle and cling precariously to something. Always thought that was knida odd; risk your ass, hanging from the side of some psuedo-cliff.... 'just cause you can. Probably why most of them have Obama/Biden bumper stickers, too. Whatever.
* URPPIES - urban yuppies

But I like the spot because it's quiet and secluded. Some of you may recall the time I found the full six pack of beer. This is that same place. Naturally, I have a certain affection for the spot after that....

Truth is, I am a loner at heart. I enjoy the alone time that detecting brings. To me, that's one of the best things about the hobby. Dont get me wrong, I like people, for the most part. But detecting gives me a constructive outlet for "out and away quiet time."
There was another guy there, the first I've ever seen in the off season. He was doing a crossword and drinking coffee. We exchanged a few pleasantries and I went to work. He must like his alone time, too - he got up shortly after my arrival and quietly left.

Didn't find much today, don't really care. It was a beautiful, peaceful morning in the SC.

Here are the usual suspects:

Found that nasty looking utility blade and large roofing nail right in the middle of a playground. Glad I got it before some little kid got jabbed.
Admittedly, I am not a great fan of children, in general, and side with W.C. Fields, when he said:

"What do I think of children? Why, I love them... all three ways: Baked, Broiled AND Fried."

However, I am not a totally insensitive lout, my appearance to the contrary. I don't want any of the little buggers to get nicked and go to bleeding all over, after all. And the shrieking that always goes with such accidents is unbearable...
Too bad about that multi tool, as well. Wish I'd a found it before it had rotted away.

Here're are the gleanings:

Somebody count that, would you be so kind? I never got round to it...

Here's hoping you all got to it, yourselves.

Good finds on getting these sharp tools and geting rid of them.
Good story of your exploits, you woul be good as a writer of stories...
To bad you didn't find the beer this time.
Like you I like hunting alone..:detecting:

Glad you got out an rubbed elbows with frigid Mother Nature. Didn't mind the cold when I was a young pup back there but then I journeyed to places like California, Arizonas, Nevada, and elsewhere and got spoiled. Now I hate the cold Nice pile of goodies.

Rainy and nasty here so no tecting for me. My wife was born in MInnesota but raised from age 4 in California so ain't no fan of cold weather although she has had to suffer some of it tailing me around all over the country. One winter in Northern Idaho it got down to 55 below. That was a bit much.
