Short Hunt Today

bcollins

New member
I went on a short hunt today with my 2 boys and one of their friends, they didn't find anything but they told me they were digging to china. I couldn't find any american coins but I sure was dialed in on the Chineese coins. I found 5 and 1/2 in about an hour and a half.

First time I've seen these type of coins, very interesting. Are you in the US of A?

Yes I am in the USA, Northern Nevada, We find a lot of these coins around here. The Chinese worked the Railroads and mines in the 1800s and early 1900s :)

I wonder why they had their native coinage with them? Do you know if the local merchants accepted these coins? It does not appear that they are made with any type of valuable material that would hold value for the merchants. Maybe they just traded them with other Chinese workers.

I Know that they had their own side of town that they lived in and that they liked to gamble in their side of town. I think that they did a lot of trading among each other with their own coinage..

Cool bit of history!
Thanks for posting,
Bunker
