Short Hunt

Just a short hunt the other night at a vacant lot in town. I have hunted this lot before but became a bit frustrated with the trash. Performed a cross-save from C/J to Relic and it helped tremendously. The Safari was a bit more chipper. It might of had something to do with me ordering an E-Trac...

Enjoy.

Most of the time, a smaller coil will help to 'pick out' and separate individual targets much better than a larger or the stock coil. That will enable you to make a much more accurate assessment of whether to dig or not to dig. You will not cover as much real estate but in the long run, it'll save you time in better selecting targets. It can be frustrating when all that's coming out is pulltabs and screw caps!!

I agree, Goldstrike. I have been using the 6x8 and it is just another factor that helps. I have found enjoyment in hunting trashy sites with this coil. I used the same coil on my newly acquired E-Trac and just doesn't seem fair. Thirty coins in less than two hours. These Minelab products are simply a cut above the rest. I think I can honestly say this as I am a former owner of a V3i. Not saying it's a substandard product, but...I'll just stop there before I get in trouble.

I now own three Minelabs.

I read however that the smaller coils do not go as deep, 3" - 4", do you find this to be true.

Still have a lot to learn,

I've seen no loss of depth with the 6x8 SEF--can't speak for any of the other smaller coils. What you will see, as mentioned on a gazillion posts, is improved detection in trashy areas.

I use a 6 inch excelerator EQ2 Pro double D coil when I've got a lot of junk in the ground and multiple targets. Also, when I am detecting close to park equipment, metal chain link fences etc; I can detect much closer without picking up the metal in the fence and the posts or park tot-lot equipment, many give up because the metal drives the detector crazy!!!....thus leaving the gold and silver for me!!!!!!
Although it's a small coil, it does the trick and I've been able to single out super nice targets when others have had problems in trash infested ground. I have noticed that I loose just a little on the depth but it's an ok trade off in my book!! H.H
