Shortening Search coil cable?

I know this was brought up years ago.
Why do Minelab searchcoils have such long cables? Besides for hip mounting.
If not hip mounting, will it hurt performance if the cable was shortened?

Sven Ive done a few of the cables, made them shorter, no performance loss at all.
yes they make them longer for hipmounting/chestmounting etc
