Should I buy these Items?

Clifford Powell

New member
My new Ex II is not here yet but after reading many prior posts I'm curious if I should buy these two items:

Swingy Thingy

A battery charger for NIMH batteries on eBay as item nunber 5843053437.
Anyone use this charger? Suggestions?

TIA

The Swingy thingy would be fo great aid if you feel the Explorer II is a bit too heavy for you, or if you have shoulder/arm problems and you can't detect very long beause of the Explorer bothering you because of its weight, so if you have any of these problems buy it, if not then you can handle it for hours and not get tired, I'm fine right now with my Explorer II's weight. About the batteries on ebay (Item #5843053437), I have this charger unused OTB, if you'd like I'll sell it to you $19 shipped (the one on eBay is $14.95 + $7 s&h) if you'd like, send me a PM if you want it.

Re: the swingy thingy...

I have one and it does work very well. I've found I only need to use it at the beach when hunting long periods of time. (shoulder problem) On grass, I've used the ExpII for hours and never had a problem. I thought it was very heavy at first but it's a non-issue now.

Joe,

I find that if I do not use the Explorer II for a couple of weeks or so, then the next time out I begin to feel some fatigue after about 30 minutes. But, if I just work through that fatigue for 15 minutes or so, then I get a "second wind" so to speak and the fatigue disappears and I can go on for several hours with no problem. I just wonder if others have had the same experience.

Glenn

Good question and unfortunately there really is no good answer that fits everyone.
I went to lighter detectors for several months because of shoulder surgery, the Explorer among others were just to heavy during recovery time. Oh yeah, I did start detecting again after a few weeks but I had to work my way up into the heavier units and it HELPED me recover too :) Good Therapy by the way !
The Swingy Thingy is a real well built, thought out piece of equipment that is nice to have around "just incase" it's needed.
If you plan on using a big coil like the WOT it's almost a MUST HAVE for some folks with the extra weight ... and for the price it's hard to beat. It can be adjusted "on the fly" while walking up hills too so that makes it nice.
If you're healthy, stay on grass surfaces and don't plan on hunting rough environments, you will be gliding the coil on top of the surface anyway and that alone takes some of the weight off so it's up to the individual hunters needs.
Hope this helps

Glenn,

I know exactly what you mean... however, the beach is really where I have most of the problems. I think it's basically the "drag" of the coil on the sand and in the shallow surf. On top of that, there's the "uphill climb" to the high tide mark and the uneven surface of the dry sand (those times I do hit the dry). It's funny, but I can dig dirt all day and not have a problem. Now that I'm thinking of it, that probably has to do with the fact that I dig a LOT more targets in dirt than in the sand. Probably gives my arm a rest :)

Might as well thank you now for all your posts! You've been very helpful to this 8 month ExpII "newbie" :)

Merry Christmas!

If you get the WOT coil, I would get the swingy thing as well. I use it and it is a arm/shoulder saving system. The WOT will go deeper than most care to dig unless you have a backhole. Just kidding, but it does go deep.
