Should I keep the 5x10 DD 18.75 kHz elliptical?

I purchased the X-Terra 70 pro pack, and this was the extra one that came with it. I was going to sell it, but wonder if anyone has a good experience with it in trashy areas? I hear it is good on the beach, but I thought the 10.5 DD 7.5 kHz was suppose to be even better on the beach. Any suggestion?
Thanks

I've got 4 coils for my 70 and pretty much use the 5x10 exclusively now. I don't know why, but I've made good finds in areas relic hunting that I missed with the stock and 10.5. It's very sensitive and is easy to maneuver in tight areas in the woods. I find it pretty deep too, and the balance is great.

As one of the initial field testers, I've have the pleasure to use all the X-Terra coils. And although there is something to be said for size, shape and frequency, each and every one of them will find treasure. I think the biggest factor in which coil each of us determine to be the "best" is the one we find the most stuff with. And frankly, the more you find with any one coil, the more you will like it. The more you like it, the more you will use it. And the more you use it, the more you will find with it. Etc. etc. etc. etc. I know I am partial to the 6-inch DD for snooping around old farm sites. Have I made some nice finds? Yes I have. Did I find anything with that particular coil that I would not have found with the 6-inch concentric? Probably not. But since I did, I have convinced myself that the little DD coil does something special. In reality, if you tore the labels off of the two 6-inch coils, I probably couldn't tell them apart. a elliptical coil or a dd, I have always used the round coils. I have the 9 in spider coil mf, 6in hf dd, 10.5mf (to be delivered monday) and the 5x10 elliptical. I have it in my mind that the 10.5 mf will be my main beach hunting coil. Yesterday I used the 5x10 elliptical dd hf , for the first time on a old sports field I have used to test all my new machines and coils on. I was very impressed with its weight, and its performance , when it locked on to a signal it was very easy to narrow it down to the good signal even with other signal close by. Pinpointing was a breeze with the elliptical I just worked the signal up to the tip of the coil and where the sound faded , the target was there everytime. I have seen a flood of the 18.75 ellipticals put up on the classifieds and I have to assume its from folks that got the pro package and they never took the coil out and tried it. Some will say its just for mineralized ground or prospecting but thats not always true, it works great anyplace. I think the legendary troy detectors ran at about the same frequency and they are used for everything from coins to relic hunting. so I would at least use your elliptical dd a few times and give it a chance, you may be surprised. I was.

Well I had the 5x10 sitting in my coil box for over a year before I decided to give it a try, and I'm glad I did. Like Randy says, it's what you use and get used to. Do I think it's as deep or covers as much ground as my 10.5? Absolutely not. But I do enjoy hunting with it more, and it's easy to maneuver in the woods. It'll also find buttons that the lower frequency coils may miss. And if you collect pull tabs, it'll find them too.

I've pretty much addicted myself to the 5x10, (I have a total of 5 coils) and I like it. I don't know if it's the proper coil for coinshooting but that's what I'm using it for now and I trust it. I wouldn't get rid of it.

Thanks everyone once again. I think I will keep it now. Hey Shenandoah Digger, I think I am going to start collecting pull tabs. I want to see if I can fill a milk jug full of them in my lifetime. I'm off to a great start. I wish I would have taken the 5x10 with me today. I was turned away from finding my Dads lost ring due to wet ground conditions, but received permission to hunt an old drive in movie theater, and the saplings were terrible. I had major trouble maneuvering the 10.5 around. Just curious, how deep have you gotten on the 5x10? Everyone enjoy their weekend.

I dug a small eagle cuff button at 8 inches, and I've dug three ringers at around 10 inches, so I have no problem with the depth. In my test garden it will hit everything the Vaquero and Tejon will. Others may disagree, but that's the way it is for me. The 10.5 DD may be deeper, but it's heavy, gets tangled in everything in the woods, and makes the 70 poorly balanced. I wish Minelab would come out with about a 6x12.
