Last time I worked was the 19th and for only 6 and a half hours. I have called every day asking if there was a schedule yet and none was posted. As you might recall previous to this I worked one day had 2 off then was "on call" for the next 5 (the above 6.5 hours was on one of those on call days).
I went to the hotel to get some other information one of the desk clerk had gotten for me and guess what....they have a schedule posted for the next 2 weeks. Finally a schedule BUT I am "on call" everyday for the next 2 weeks!!!!!!
Now you might see why I am selling my detectors. As I said before - a tough choice and not one I wanted to have to make. I have no retirement coming thanks to the U.S Air Force...so much for rewarding their troops for a job well done. This is an example of an old saying "No good deed goes unpunished".
So as much as I want to tell em to stuff the job and quit some places will look at that and lose a chance at another job or other benefits. Obviously, they aren't going to lay me off due to a lack of work.
The boss told me once "there is more than enough work areound here to keep you and Chris (the other maintenance guy) busy all day, every day for a long time." Guess they just want me to be like a fireman and only be around to put out their 'guests' fires (maintenance problems) and not work on anything else.
What are your thoughts? I hate to apply for assistance from the State but if I have to and they see I quit a job (what a joke calling this a job) they could either deny me any help altogether or delay it. Sherry's pest control work will be over soon leaving us only her business income for bird foods and that has yet to support us...everything made goes back into the business.
There are onlu 2 more major things happening up here. Labor day weekend will be the last of the tourist season until February when they have Tip Up Town - an ice fishing event that draws people to the area. Other than that businesses will be down-sizing and some closing doors til next spring. Only God will be able to find me a FULL time job that actually allows me to work and earn an income.
In the meantime, my detecting days are over and the need to sell the detectors isn't any option any more.
May God help us as we try to "pay unto Caeser what belongs to Caesar" and to "owe no many anything but to love him."
We have enven had to spend some of what we have to support my mother-in-law in the nursing home as she has not enough income to meet her own personal needs for sodas and cigarettes and hair dos, etc.
