I had a 8:30 iris club meeting this morning, so grabbed the Omega with the 10" coil on and headed out to some local chip lots and volley ball courts right at 6a. The first spot I hit was a school chip lot. I usually swing around the perimeter first and and then work around the play equipment. Nada, nothing, the first 10 minutes. I began to think tabman had beat me to the spot. Finally under some monkey bars I got a nice quarter hit. That turned out to be the John Adams $1 coin. it looked so good I tore off a piece of my dew rag and wrapped it in it. On the next swing I got a screaming hit reading 92. There were some near by tennis courts and I suspected a tennis can lid. Nope, a 2000 Kennedy half. Finally a few minutes later over by the swings I got another quarter reading and that was the Susan B Anthony one dollar coin with masking tape across her face. ??? I did get a couple of Memorial cents and then another screaming hit. I thought, "no way." And I was right. It wasn't another Kennedy half, but it was an Ike dollar coin. I have found dollar coins and a few silver dollars over the years, but a Ike dollar is a first. After my meeting I stopped off at another chip lot and promptly hit what in all likelihood was a coin spill. From about a 5" area I recovered at least 15 dimes and nickels and 1 quarter. I lost track exactly how many. From the outside of the chips I stabbed several additional coins. 49 total coins is a bunch for me. Have a good weekend, all. Disc 1, 75 sen, d3 tones and 82 gb. Yeah Man! I love those chip totters! You can see how a guy can really quickly and easily rack up some dollar coins and halfs in them...not to mention all sorts of foreign coins that the kids are carrying...for just sheer clad numbers, totlot hoppin is necessary. Jim, those totlots coughed up some great coins for this late in the summer, reckon nobody hunted them at school end this spring?

I have about 5 tot lots that I routinely sweep during the school year on weekends. And, I and a couple others have hit this one since school was out last spring. Many of our city and county schools have started in the last one to two weeks. This lot was cleaned a weekend ago as school started there two weeks ago now. Hence, feel the $1. coins and the half perhaps were brought for show and tell and then lost. I am finding more and more $1. coins as time goes along, but nothing along the lines of Ike dollars. If they will just do away with the penny coin and the $1. bill, us coin shooters could buy a new detector every few months. LOL Regarding stripers, the area we were fishing is notorious for 50-60 pounders. Most of those are caught with a guide. I have caught a handful in the 30-40 pound range and my son has 2 near 50. A 20 pound striper is a real handful. I use fairly hefty tackle, but quite honestly, I doubt if I could land an inland record striper on it un-less I was fortunate enough to be out in open water. Good luck on your salmon fishing. HH jim tn
