:shrug:Metal detecting for Meteorites:help:?

TONE JUNKY

New member
I just saw a program on Metal detecting for Meteorites on the Travel Channel & I've heard of this in the past. But, I've never done this myself & was wandering how they would come in on the Explorer II, if anyone out there has done this before.

According to the show, a meteorite can be worth as much as $40/ounce & those things are pretty heavy. And they look like iron slag, so it would be easy for a coin shooter to mistake a meteorite for iron slag. I may have dug some already & don't even know it.

So, my questions are:
1. How can you tell if you've found a meteorite?
2. How do they come in on your detector?

Thanks for any input.

Hi TJ, on my SE in all-metal I get a readout of FER--31 CON--28 with a very low tone. My meteorite is an iron type which weighs .142KG. You need your metal detector, a magnet, a good set of eyes, and a place that is known for meteorites. But they can be anywhere. Ok good luck TJ and God Bless.
