Sidewalk strips # 2

steve in so la

Well-known member
About 15 years ago I did some sidewalk strips downtown, dug some things and moved on. Now that I have learned a whole lot more about using my Fisher I hit them again in post #1 last Wed that I posted. And today I did them some more for post #2 , got 43 coins, a Barber dime 1912, Merc 1944 & a couple wheats. One wheaty is 1920.

Man it's hard digging, scummy part of town, hot and poor landscaping to go through. But fun !!! Now I have to clean them up,Steve in so az

Steve,

Great finds! Old silver is always welcome. Question: Are you randomly picking city streets and sidewalks and hitting the grassy area in between? Looks like I might have to shake things up. Again, super nice coins! - Jim

Jim - Not randomly, as I have started marking off streets as I do them, finishing up a neighborhood as I go. And yes, I do the what would be grassy to most of the country but is dirt & dead grass here :) I dont do the areas that people keep looking nice - but they are very few doing that. Very dry conditions always - probably discourages most - good for me. Steve

I know how rare mercs are there, but Barber's must be ultra rare! Congrats my friend!!!!

Great idea hitting these areas. Have you ever had any homeowners come out yelling at you because they think you are on their property? At 103 degrees, someone would be picking me off the sidewalk strip lol. :stretcher: You are one tough cookie to withstand that heat. - Jim

very cool finds! do people ever come up to you while digging sidewalk strips and say you cant do that or this is my property?

Once in a while a house owner comes out to say they own the ground where I am. I tell them the city laws say their property ends at the sidewalk. If they get in a huff I move to the next house. Unless I am finding goodies - then I stay. As for heat - I start real early and quit about 10-11:00, a mere 95 by then :) steve

been a long time since I found silver. My last was a silver dime .Was offered 2 hundred for it but declined the offer .hh God bless

good to hear from you. That must have been a goodie to be offered a lot for it. Hope all's well with you guys, steve

WTG, what fisher machine are ya using?

1266 X - been using it for the last 20 years - it & an identical one, on my second one now. Before that I used a 1265 X. I could get a newer, different one but cannot imagine finding more than I am. The man behind the machine is as important as the machine, in my opinion, Steve

That's right I just remembered the 1266, you are the master of your machines without a doubt!!
