Sidewalk tearup gives way to parkway work

They started roto tilling and shaving the parkways in the neighborhood where I've been having fun under the slabs. Sunday was a great day! Didn't get any silver, the 1877 seated shown came from under a slab the other day but got three rings, an IH, a rough buff, a lapel pin and a sweet tie tac. Got clad too, but keeping that to myself, no pics.

Tim I must take my hat off to you guys that dig under the removed cement. That is some nice detecting and some good finds.
I went to a golf course last week and fond the parking lot all tore up with the top removed. I thought I would be like ElginTim and get some really nice stuff. Not so I couldn't get past the crushed rocks about 2" down. It all looked so nice and soft. It takes much more than I want to expend for digging. So I do admire you guys who dig those targets. It is quite a job. Hats off and nice work Tim.... Happy Trails ..... Z

Good job and finds, Tim. Hope you have enough of a window to really scour under the removed slabs. Looks like there could be some really nice finds there. Good luck. HH jim tn

Thanks guys and yes, the 5" DD coil has found a home with me in that work. But no, there's little time to scour the digs. When they're pulling slabs at this site, they are forming and tamping right afterward so I am literally behind the bucket as close as I can be without being a safety hazard or distraction to the crew.

If they think you represent either, you're off the site. So it's race along, and don't forget to buy them some cold drinks for break time on the hot days and some for yourself as you are racing their progress.

The only problem I've ever had was with the city crews/engineers, but being local government family appointments and hires, you'd expect as much from them. On the other hand, I'm not worried about dressing them down when they need it either since they're usually big fat lazy you-know-whats anyway.

So my buddy with the ETrac hands me a coin yesterday and asks me what kind of nickel it is, as he hands it to me I have to tell him, "Dummy, it's a 2-cent piece" and the look on his face was golden. He'd never seen one before. I'd sent him up to an area I hadn't gotten to yet to give him a headstart. Nice 1864 two-center it was too. The day before, on Saturday, I sent my buddy with the V3 over to spot where they cut back 4 feet on the front lawn of an empty house and he promptly pulled an 1893 barber quarter. Teach me to be kind to the guys I bring along.....

Anyhow, just got the scouting report and they're pulling some slabs, going back out there now.

Nice Job Tim that's my kind of digs  BTW isn that neat piece with the green oval stone a cuff link?

I've been tediously working a park demo where the removed some asphalt that's been there since the 40's that has been slowly giving up a few goodies. Unfortunately they haven't removed the crushed rock under the asphalt, and I know there's loads of silver under there if they'd remove it. I'm bringing a shovel today to dig a pit and see if a 10x10 area will produce once getting down to the native dirt under the 6" of rock.

Happy hunting,
Brian

Sure enough Brian, it's like the third one I've gotten this year and I interchangeably call them tie tacs or cuff links. Gonna claim mid day sun and humidity further enfeebling my ability to differentiate!

Very good hunting! No silver? ... I always like the sterling and turquoise combination and it looks like that is what 2 of the rings are. Very pretty rings!!

Yep, silver rings are silver! Got a real pretty 1919 buff this morning and another guy got the most beat up SLQ I've ever seen. But I'll get back to pics after this weekend's marathon hunt over there at the work site, and it'll be good!
