well I got out for an hour and a half today. I hit two spots...one, an area near my honey hole...which apparently I'll have to go at hard, as it turned up a few nice coins.
I picked up this 1880 Indian Head, an 1893 fishscale, a 1900 Large Cent, a 1936 penny, as well as a religious medallion.
I then went to a huge field which was once a training area for troops during the war of 1812. The problem with this place, is that it was also used during WW1, so it is littered with brass casings!! A nightmare! Those suckers ring up nice. Anyhow, most of these brass casings are at about 7" deep...and I dug this buckle today at 13" I know very little about buckles, but this one is obviously military...the question is, how old!? It is stamped "solid brass" I believe. Can anyone tell by the style how old it is!? Thanks

Can't really help you the buckle but just wanted to say that you're doing great with your new Explorer.
It gets even better! Your finds will improve as time goes by. I'm still learning my EX II. Last Saturday I got an IFFY signal that read in only one direction but it sounded deep, so I dug it and it turned out to be a 1907 indian cent. You bet I'll pay attention to those signals from now on.

I'm having a blast with this machine. I heard a lot of rumblings about a huge learning curve, but I haven't found it bad at all. The first 2 or 3 times out I was sort of lost, but have a pretty good handle on it now. Obviously I have things to learn still, but I am able to pick off good deep signals, good targets in the middle of trash, etc. I love my XS for sure.Good going on the one way signal. I try to dig those too if they are deep. Those indians tend to hit all over the charts, and some sound pretty crappy when they are green and deep.
