Silver Dollar # ?

SWMO Mark

New member
I was wondering what # a silver dollar reads on the Safari. I read where you could disc. out #40 to eliminate some iron falseing. Wanted to make sure I didnt disc. out a $1 by doing this. Anyone tested one before? Thanks, Mark

ANY numeric range, with ANY detector that could cause me to miss desired targets, with the exception of knocking out SOME low-reading numbers for some iron. I sure don't find those big ol' silver dollars with the frequency I used to some forty-years ago, but I now I don't want to miss them, either. Rejecting '40' could cause me to do just that.

I'd much rather HEAR anything that reads-out as '40' and then, if I question it or want to qualify the target, I can use a few quick techniques, such as EPR, or raising the coil a couple of inches, or using the Pinpoint function to size the target. The only thing I know you eliminate for sure with a '40' rejection is "get feeling." If you can't hear it then you are not the one in control of your detector. You don't have the opportunity to analyze the target and make that git call to dig or not dig.

To satisfy your own curiosity, take a silver dollar with you to several favorite sites and bury it. Do this several times, and with it in several positions, and place it close to some typical trash that one might find in an area where you expect to find a silver dollar. I've satisfied my curiosity long ago with natural-loss finds .... I accept a '40.'

Monte, thanks for your feedback. I feel basically the same as you on disc. I just hadnt seen anyone say where a silver dollar falls on the #s. Presently I dont have a silver dollar so I cant do any testing. Even in worn condition I would think a silver dollar should hit in the 39-40 range. I guess there could be a difference on how it reads depending on wether you are useing Ferrous or Conductivity. Thanks, Mark

just reading up on the safari but most detectors a silver dollar should read around where a quarter or half reads. some machines do read higher as the coin gets bigger. i do know that the sovereign would be 180 on all the larger ones. most machines you can't disc. out a silver dollar but if the safari sets up like the explorer you could black out the area where the dollar would hit at.

Thanks for the #s on the silver dollar. I know it might vary depending on goround conditions, but at least I have a idea where they read. Thanks, Mark

Jost found silver half on friday 7 inches. It read 40.Also find aluminum cans at 40.Tried taking 40 out but felt I was missing something .Now I dig all 40's.

i believe that on every machine i've ever used aluminum cans come in the same as quarters and halfs.
