Silver...Finally

Flambeaux

New member
Well it has taken a few hundred coins, but I finally hit silver today. Last night I got permission to hunt an empty house that was built in the late 1800's. It's actually on the haunted house registry here in Utah. Soon as I got home from work I went over to see what this massive corner house was going to give me. I found it very trashy and was slightly bummed at all the pull tabs I hit. Finally I heard a fairly good target and dug up a 1918 Wheatie. That got the blood flowing. Now I know that somewhere in this lawn will be good targets. I hunted for about an hour and didn't get anything but trash. My son was on the far side of the house and called me over to help him pin point a hole. On the way over to him I heard a short faint target..trashy but the co stayed around 47. I stuck my digger in the area to mark the spot and went over to help my son with his target that turned out to be a flat aluminum washer. I went back to my digger and tried to find that target. After several minutes I hit the spot, I mean it was the faint and really hard to pull out of the trash. I started to dig, and dig, and dig more..this thing was deep. But the target signal got better and better..now I am over 10 inches deep and thinking I am going to pull a beer can out of this deep hole..I reached in with my hand and took one last scoop of loose dirt and there was a bright shinny ridge. I pulled a 1944 quarter out of that hole. It was surrounded by nails and was perfectly on edge. I measured it as over 11 inches to the top of the coin. Long story...lol...Going back and looking deep tomorrow. I have this house to myself as the owner made sure I was the only one allowed on the site. This might yield some good stuff..Tokens maybe..Thanks for reading..Good Hunting

Gee whiz. If you're first silver came out that way....I'm convinced that you simply haven't passed over any before. What a story! Glad you got your quarter!!!

Congrats on the silver Flambeaux. I know how it feels pulling that first silver out of the ground!

its great to pull out your first of anything and i really enjoyed reading your build up to it WELL DONE WHOOOOPEE

thats what its all about right there. congrats on your first. i think if silver coins didnt (usually) come out of the ground nice and shiny, metal detecting wouldnt be as much fun as it is!

congrats !

Is it just me or is there a pic missing? Congrats on find, but for those of us who are silver neglected, we love pic's..

What happens around this area is that they used flood irrigation for many many years. It sends alot of your targets real deep if it is near one of the parts of the yard the water was brought into. The half I got the next day was about 7 to 8 inches down with several wheaties around it. Plus the dirt was like really dark powder. Thanks for looking..Good Hunting

Congrats on the silver! Must be mice to get a silver quarter for your first silver! I Also found a 1918 wheatie yesterday.
