Well, today was a lot better than I had hoped for. I have been searching a house yard across the street from my house for the last three day with moderate success. Yesterday I finally found my first silver coin, a 1939 Mercury Dime in EX-40 Condition. at only 1 inch deep. That told me that this yard had never had a detector over it before. The first two days I found $.93 in clad & Memorials, Mercury Dime, & 5 Wheat Cents from 1946-1955. Today I knew I had to go to the back yard and try my luck again. I just had a feeling that something big was left to be found, and I was right.
I walked straight back to where I found the Mercury Dime and started scanning real slow around this small area, About 5 feet from the Mercury and towards the rear of the house I had a mixed signal, bouncing from high tone to a medium tone at about 7 inches. I dropped down and started digging. Checked the hole and the signal was dead center a little deaper. Cleaned out the hole of dirt and the signal was gone, Used my X-1 probe on the dirt pile and it was going crazy!. Thought my probe was bad. I brushed the dirt around, and could not believe what I saw. I first saw 3 Walking Liberty Half Dollars mixed in the dirt. I moved them over and re-scanned the dirt. Upper left hand side of the pile, the probe sang out again. I brushed the dirt around ans saw 7 more Half's stacked together on their sides. Well, after removing all the coins I checked the pile again, the probe was silent. I filled in the dig and headed home.
The dates range from 1916-1940 with the D & S mint marks. This was my second silver cashe within 2 blocks that I have found in the last 2 years. It is too hot to go back out now, so I will wait until a cooler morning to see if there is another cashe buried on this property. As always, HH...Jesse.
