Silver morning hunt!

Well-known member
Hit a spot that I hadn't ever hunted much do to it always being un-mowed. And I mean un-mowed. Often the grass is 6" to a foot high. It is a low traffic area and doesn't apparently get the usual grooming that the other fields do. Anyway, started hitting clad right off, mostly 70's and 80's, but some State quarters, too. Finally, about an hour into the 3 1/2 hour hunt I hit a wheat cent and then in short order, a 56 Rosie. A few more clads came along and then a 47 Rosie, 2 wheats, more clad and the last target on the way to the car was another 56 Rosie. Been a while again since I've nailed 3 silvers on an outing. The wheat cents were 18, 54 and 55. I had the 10" concentric on the Omega as I had used that coil over the weekend. The site, though, needs a DD coil as there is quite a bit of iron. Was able to run sen 99 without one iota of chatter and disc 1 and d3 tones. G B was 71 -73 on this stretch of ground. A little higher then is the norm. HH jim tn

You have a lot of those "Silver morning hunts" Nice work with your alternative coils/machines too! Regarding the deep grass, tip the greenskeeper to give it a mow, or toss out a match!:rofl::hot: 4hrs...man, thats some serious concentration going on! WTG!
Mud

Mike, its good to hear from you. Mud, the maintenance guys all know me, but get paid by the county and me only indirectly. LOL  To you as well El.

Jim,

It might be a while between the 3-silver days, but with ample onesie-twosie days to fill the gaps you're going to round-up ample silver coins in 2012. For fun you ought to give us a month-end count of how many silvers you're getting each month, or to-date for the year. It's great to have a nice place to reward you with some degree of regularity.

Again, I also want to thank you (and others who do the same) for adding the settings you use on the Omega (and other models folks use) because it does help "tell a story" about where you are adventuring and how your approach a site. I seldom run my own Omega higher than '1' in the Disc. setting, and mostly use the d1, d2 or d4 Tone ID options, based upon the sites I am hunting.

I'm on the Oregon/Idaho border right now doing a little road trip to call on dealers and individuals who are into the hobby. I'll be making a stop to work my booth at the Boise, Idaho GPAA Gold Show on May 5th & 6th, then travel to a ghost town or two as I head to Salt Lake City, Utah for the Gold Show on the 12th & 13th of May. I mention this because I'll only be checking in on my e-mail and the forums from time-to-time and might miss some of the exciting posts of success afield. I hope you and others continue to enjoy getting out, and I'm working in all the time I can during my travels.

If anyone in the areas I mention has a good find or two to show off they are welcome to stop by my booth at either of these shows and let me take a peek. In the meantime, best of success to you, and maybe that grass will get a bit shorter. How about a couple of pet goats or sheep to follow you (lead you) around?

Monte

Thanks Monte. I'll do a firm tally about the end of April, but it is about 25 right now. Have a safe trip and let us know what the year of the gold coin is you find. Good luck! HH jim tn
