Silver quarter in a wierd way.

When my oldest daughter, who is 19 now, was 5 or 6 years old we bought her a gumball machine for Christmas. After only a few fillings the keys to it mysteriously went missing. We've been wanting to clean it out and store it for quite a while now so I tried to pick the lock with whatever I could find and had some one else try it with a lock picking set but we could not get it open. Not wanting to pay a locksmith I decided to drill the lock out tonight. Naturally I riffled through all the quarters inside to check the rims and out of the 689 quarters I found one 1964 silver and yes, I replaced it with a clad quarter.

Anyone care for a ten year old gumball?

Thats Funny

I have three tellers who used to save silver coins for me. I have collected a bunch from them over the years including a roll of silver halves. I sent them flowers for that. Anyhow, lately nothing has come my way and when I went to the bank Saturday I found out why. I spotted a silver dime and a silver quarter in one girls tray and asked to buy them. She said they belonged to her. I guess she has been taking all the silver I used to get. I was disappointed and she said she had an old half dollar that someone had just brought in and sold me a 1964 Kennedy Half for 50 cents. I reckon she didn't know the 64 half was silver. Today the same girl had a 1968 half in her tray. She asked why I wanted them and I said I just save any coin from before 1970. No sense spoiling silver halfs too was my thought. She said she'd put all she found aside for me. I'm golden until she looks at a Red Book.

I imagine that gumball machine was kinda heavy.

It was heavy. The machine is a good one, not a cheap Mickey Mouse deal. It probably weighed close to thirty pounds before I emptied it.

Incidentally, my detecting finds today were $1.07 in clad and no silver so this kinda made my day.

I was out hiking in a local wood and looked down at the rain swollen creek bed. Staring up from the sand was a 1964 quarter. I snagged it and found no other. Metal detecting is off limits here, I might add.

Is it a regular gumball machine or a gumball bank? Those gumballs should be chewy. HA. Too bad I wasn't close as I can pick locks pretty good. Opened up doors for many of my neighbors. The elderly lady who used to live next door, along with her sister, locked themselves out of the house one day and came to me for help. I first looked to see if there was a window I could jimmy but they all had storm windows installed, so I said," To hell with it.," and I pulled a credit card out of my wallet, walked up to the front door and popped it open. The lady, with a look of shock on her face, said, " How'd you do that?" I told her she didn't want to know. :)
