Yes, the main control box above the grip is essentially the same. However the MX7 uses a lighter-weight upper rod grip area as well as a better battery box making it lighter and better balanced. Even better, the headphone jack is positioned at the rear of the battery box under the arm cup.

The MX7 I definitely favor because of the lighter feel and better balance, and especially the battery system.
