SL noise question for Reg

Reg. The SL has a un-usal noise useing ground balance and conductivity switch.
Useing the recharge-able battery at about 10.20 volts.
The noise starts when SL is first turned on,
ground balance on, conductivity switch at Low. I passed a gold ring across coil then I
moved conductivity switch to All, The SL makes a on going noice. sounds like a sick
dog.only way to stop noise is turn ground balance off.
This happens when you first turn on SL with ground balance on and useing conductivity switch.
Is this normal for SL.

I won't say the noise you hear is normal but it is very possible. It all depends upon the emi where you are trying to use it plus if the Frequency is not adjusted correctly it can increase the problem. So, you may try adjusting the Frequency control slowly to see if the noise reduces. Pick the setting that is the quietest. Often this is close to mid position but not always.

Noise that is heard on the SL or the TDI mainly comes from the GB channel. So, if you turn the GB off, the noise should drop dramatically. Reducing the GB pot setting should reduce the noise also.

If you are unsure, the recommended advice is to send the detector back to White's and provide a detailed explanation of what is wrong.

Taking the detector out in a remote area away from EMI noise should reduce this noise problem greatly.

I was looking at a field comperrson test on the beach between.
Surf pi, san shark, infinium,TDI pro,and ATX.
The TDI pro detected a nickel in wet sand at 18''
The SL is a up grade to the TDI pro, will a good SL detect a nickel at 18''
I need to recheck my SL at beach before I E-mail white.
if it wll detect a nickel at 16 or 17'' I will accept it.

No, a TDI and SL circuit board will not interchange. They are totally different sizes.

Pulse delay at Max? Not sure you meant Min, but if set at max 9.5" might be about right.

I am useing a 12''white DF coil, when you say 9.5 are you saying
9.5'' is about a bought right dept for a nickel at beach or pot setting.
How deep will your SL detect a US nickel at beach with a 12'' coil..

A SL with a 12'' coil,air test with a nickel.
How far or deep will the SL detect a US nickel.
The SL is a up-grade to TDI pro.the TDI pro gets 17'' air test
on a US nickel,should the White SL get 17'' air test on a nickel.

If you think being less powerful,then the SL is an upgrade over the PRO.

I meant 9.5" as in depth. You said you are testing the SL with max pulse delay, if you want more depth you need to run the pulse delay at minimum, ie 10 on the dial. I don't have an SL any more, I up graded to the standard big box TDI. The SL is not an up grade to the TDI pro, yes it is newer but it is not as powerful as the PRO so it will not match the depth of the PRO. Sorry I cant tell you how deep an SL will go on a nickel as I dont have a nickel, we spend Euros over here.

Thanks, I ment 10 on both gain and pulse delay.
I did get a exter inch on dept with a 15V battery
On a beach if you get behind someone with a minelab detector with
a large coil a exter inch in dept dont help.
