Hi RMPTR, Oh how I hate "campground nuggets". Those are when people throw aluminum cans into their campfires, creating dense molten perfect little globs of aluminum. They can be so dense and thick, that they sound GREAT. Those would be the perfect test to see if someone believes they've figured out the gold vs aluminum sounds :) Fortnately, after our beach storms, those lighter wieght globs are washed out to sea, when hunting the wet sand. If I encounter those globs on the wet sand, I immediately bail. It means sand is coming back in, or hasn't eroded off to begin with in the first place.

This is what I did years back when I was using a Whites 6000, I gathered up a bunch of pulltabs that I had found to see where they would ID on the meter. What I found out was there is a pulltab from under the nickel mark to almost up to zinc, that is every single number on the scale. I then placed numbers on a group of the pulltabs to have an a standard. Then I gathered rings to see how they would sound and showup on the Explorer, what I found out was that there is a pulltab to mimic rings that showup in that region. To take it farther as you mentioned, foil comes in all shapes and sizes, that will take care of the thin ring segment. Then the dreaded shredded alum can pieces covers from foil to way up the scale.
I tried for myself to see if I could hear some type of nuance so I could have an advantage but it wasn't there (at least for me), then add soil matrix making it even more difficult....

The better approach is to go by audio and cull certain pulltabs that are prevalant but it is best to dig it all if one is going for jewelry.

My pleasure Pete, I'm glad you find the Emulator useful... I know I do.
I particularly like the trace feature, ~ a great tool it is for newbies to practice on while referring to the owners manual...

I guess being restricted indoors this winter, a person could rehearse settings on their PC monitor.

Have a joyous Christmas.

They read SOoo good ~ and are sooo infinitely sized !

Ya' gotta dig 'em, or you'll be leaving some big gold targets for Skully !!!

to do research on other old places to detect come spring. Those zip files sure opened up the program with coins (and rings) closer to home (USA) that I didn't have before.

Some of those US coins I do not yet have in my practice strips of coins (coins in between clear packaging tape). I put the Exp II in Learn mode so it knows what I have but didn't know where the other ones like gold $10, $5, $2.50 nad the $1 gold coins of the 1800s would be. My hat is off to whoever made the US zips and the ring zips and I will always appreciate the creator of these great emulators. (Hmmm wonder why there is no salute smiley??)

And thank you for your advice and help..you've been a blessing to me.

Snowy that pic of the chest was my finds from last year...2006

That's impressive Skully, that chest of goodies; and 120 plus gold rings so far this year !

Your "golf buggy" looks great, the skull theme is fantastic, and the awesome paint job tops it off ...

:blink:Say,
you wouldn't be the ghost who walks would ya ???

I hunt the beach with an exp11 using a 15" WOT coil. I also hunt with an excal. with a 10" stock coil. I have learned many things on this forum, how to recover gold and silver is the one I like most. My experience has been like Tom in CA, I dig any target that sounds like gold knowing that many times it turns out to be aluminium of one kind or another.
When I hunt in grassy parks I use my sunray pinpointer and a coiltek joey coil on my exp11. I have found that even with this wonderful set-up I still dig any target that sounds like it could be gold. The results are pretty much like the beach hunts with many aluminium targets recovered to one of gold.
I wish my hearing and intuition were a little sharper so I could dig up more gold and less aluminium..
