Small coil at the park

capt.

New member
My small coil came in from Kellyco yesterday but I was unable to hunt due to Honey do's. This morning after finishing that particular list I made it to the local park and started hunting at 10:45. Next thing I know its is 4:45 and it is time to go home. I love losing myself in this hobby. I also love the 5 inch DD coil. Hey Monte, you were right, this coil is awesome. Take for the day was 25 quarters, 16 dimes, 5 nickels, 49 pennies. One fell down the drain when I was cleaning them. Only 48 in the pic. 17 copper. Sens from 65 to 95 due to EMI, notched out iron and foil, GB at 62 to 73. I only dug 67 trash targets today so once again more coins than trash. I like those odds. This Gamma is a great detector and I am very happy with it. Catching my boat tomorrow somewhere above Little Rock, Arkansas, on the Arkansas river and will be gone for 28 days. Can't wait for the next days off. Hope you all have a Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Hunting to everyone.

Congratulations Capt on all the great finds with that new 5inch dd coil it rocks doesnt it,enjoy the Gamma..Markmac

capt, sorry to hear you are catching the boat today, but now you know exactly what some of us have been excited about ... the excellent in-the-field performance of the round 5" DD coil. Fixed to a very good detector, like a Gamma or Omega, it is a winning combination. :clapping:

Congrats on your success and just look forward to many more days like it in the future.

Monte,

Can that be said for the Fisher F5 as well ? I ask as there is a 5" DD for it.

Omega or Gamma if using the Fisher 5" DD coil. Honestly, I haven't had the time to round up an F5 and 5" DD coil to compare but I doubt that the performance would be sub-par for them. It's still wet here and it's going to get colder and wetter. We might warm to the low 50's by Thanksgiving, and maybe stay decent thru Saturday. If so, I'll meet up with a dealer and we'll compare these models and coils. I'm sure others, such as Mike Hills, will add their views about the F5 performance.

Hey Capt, I worked the Tennessee and Ohio rivers as a L & D operator. I retired last year from Markland L & D on the Ohio. If you ran these rivers I probably have talked to you over these past 30 years. Now that IM retired I start my detecting in February, when hunting season goes out. I started swinging the Omega in February of this year, and have fell in love with this machine. I will be getting the 5"DD coil before I start detecting again in February.
I hunt a lot of old homesteads along the Ohio river, northern KY area. If you ever see a guy on the KY bank detecting, give me two short whistles.

Hey Dead Eye, Congrats on the retirement man. Nothing like retirement to free a guy up for the important things in life... having fun, relaxing, enjoying oneself... hope you are doing them all. I have been through Markland a few times in the last couple of years on the M/V Kevin Conway. But we go all over. I am sitting below Lagrange L & D on the Illinois river waiting lock turn right now. # 1 on second n/b group. I'll bet you don't miss those days, especially during this cold weather. 22 degrees with a 1 degree wind chill factor. Take care friend. If I ever do see you on the banks of the Ohio, I'll send two whistles your way.
