Small coil for T2

Digging Fool

New member
Thinking about getting a 5" coil for the T2. I have a large trashy sand area to hunt and there's some good stuff there amongst the trash. I've been trying to find a used small coil, but no luck, so may get a new one. Would it be worth it? Thanks for any replies.

It's a great little coil. Just the right size. I have found a lot with mine. It's like having two different detectors.

I hunt will around a cellar hole with one coil, switch to the other one and always find more targets that the other coil couldn't.

6 inches is the maximum size for a small coil. Coils between 6 and 10 inches are kind of in a dead zone with no advantage over the 11". This is true of most detectors.

Ultimately you may want three coils, the 5", 11" and a maybe 15" SEF. That's what I have. I feel that covers the entire range of possible targets. The Ultimate 13" would also be a good choice for the larger coil. Each coil will find targets that the other two coils won't.

The 5inch coil when used on the T2 is a great combination especially when used on very junkie sites albeit its not the deepest coil but its great also to get in between stubble or rape stubble which is like bamboo.I also have a few other coils for the T2 both are the SEF 12x10 and the 15x12 although the latter only comes out to play when we go hunting on pasture land and also on some club digs that we have a set amount of land over a small time duration.

The coil may be small but you can run the setting hotter than other small coils.

If you're using the 15 x 12 just to cover more ground you are missing out on a great coil for all around use.

I use mine around cellar holes, in the woods, fields, anywhere you would use a standard coil. Sure there are junkie places where it can't see between the iron, but there are always places amidst the iron and around the fringes where it can see down and pick up deep targets no problem.

The 5" coil may be limited to trashy spots and tight places but the big coils are great to use wherever you want to hunt deep, even in the vicinity of iron trash.

@Badger in NH i use the 15x12 SEF mainly on pasture to give me the additional depth that the other coils cannot give me the reason being that most coins and the like are deeper than normal ploughed land,so this is the main reason that i use that coil as the main coil is the 12x10 SEF i also mentioned that i use the big SEF on some club digs that we only have a set amount of time on this could be due to a narrow window from the crops being cut to being seeded again this has been the norm in the last few years due to the freak weather that we have had over here in the UK.

The large SEF is not the most popular coil for the T2 not because its rubbish but due to the weight so hence this is why people tend to use the smaller version,so its not a case of missing out its a case of using the right coil in the right enviroment thats all.If i want to go deep i can use the DFX with the 18inch Detech coil or my Pulse detector with the 15inch coil on it.

Thanks for all the replies! All I have is the standard coil that came on it, and I'm digging plenty deep, but think that the 5" coil would do for now. Later on, I'll get the bigger one.

The small sniper coil is an absolute must... I'm recovering from a hip replacement and 83 years old,
so I'm limited in getting out and covering a lot of ground; so I use the "sniper" to concentrate on
local areas that have been avoided by other club members because are they are considered too
trashy.

I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, so that will help me, too. Recently, I have taken a different machine that has a smaller coil, but I like the T2 so well, I really want the small coil for it. I currently have 6 detectors, and the T2 is my favorite.

There is one going cheap on ebay right now. Auction number 121049547748. Used once.the bidding is at $15.00 with 6 hrs left.
I'm not trying to spam. Just trying to help out.
