Small coils

D&P-OR

Well-known member
I have compiled a lot of info & testing on small coils but one question comes to mind & I have never had the opportunity to test this.----Would there be any (appreciable) difference (when working trash) in the operation/performance of a (standard) T2 with the 5" DD coil as opposed to the F-75 LTD with 5" DD (and operateing in the DE mode on the 75)?---------Thanks, Del

Idon't think there would be any appreciable difference. I have a T2 and the F75 LTD and have the small coil for each. It is probably the "luck of the draw" but I have done better with the T2 and the small coil. I can run the LTD wide open... disc=0 and 99 sens in BP when I use the small coil, (at least at the one place I tried that... and it is a horrible place for minerals and EMI). I don't remember how I ran the T2 with the small coil because I got the f75 LTD just after getting the small coil for the T2 and the T2 got set aside for a while. However today, I took the F75 out of rotation and put the T2 in the truck. I'll try the small coil some.
I don't think depth is the issue with either machine when using the 5" coil, I think it is all seperation and I really think either will do the job and will actually get excellent depth. Depth that a 5" coil should not get. I am probably going to sell my LTD next week and keep the T2. I have an Omega-8000 coming and I just can't keep everything. My T2 is rock solid and deep enough for anything around here in this hard red clay.

I hope this helps...

In my ground here when using the T 2 and regular F 75, both with the stock 11" coil, my F 75 was a tad deeper then the T 2. Not by much, but the 75 was a little deeper. At the time, I only had the 6 1/2" coil for the F 75, so whether the same would apply with the 5" coils for each would only be a guess. I do know, however, in the bp mode verses de, that the 5" coil is deeper in the bp mode. Not a total answer to your question, Del, but all things being equal, which they seldom are when it comes to detecting, well!!!! HH jim tn
