Small Park Hunt

Meet up with my hunting buddy here in Sebring, Fl for a small park hunt. Here in the middle of Fl. you dont expect much from these parks since most have been beaten to death and the loose sand makes larger coins disappear quickly. There was apparently an old home there at some time based on all the copper trash we dug. This site hadnt been hunted in some time based on the clad we found. I know i managed over $5 and Gil did the same. We both found a few wheats as well dating the park to around the 40s. I know Andy wrote the average good hunter digs about 15 targets an hour. Well we werent good hunters.... we dug close to twice that just because there were pennies everywhere and that was just the good targets. Gil dug so much trash he had to empty his pouch.... and he had a BIG pouch. I dont know if the place had been cherry picked or heavier coins just disappear quickly. I managed two silver..... a 1905 Barber and a 1945 Merc dime. We were digging so many high targets that we just couldnt dig many in the nickel range. I think i still got 5 nickels. To find silver in these inland parks is a challenge. The weather was perfect... big sun and about 80. Not a real good picture, but it was taken on the back of the truck at the end of the day.

Finding a Barber Dime there was a good find!!!

My Mom and Dad live in Sebring during the winter here. Next time I visit I will have to look you up!!!

Happy hunting

I dont live here raweppler, but have been coming down for the past 3 years for winter hunts. I spend a few months here in Sebring then try to hit the coast for a month or so before going home for the spring digs. I used to spend it out west, AZ and Calf. but we were full time traveler then. The price of gas has slowed us down.... that and we bought a home close to our kids in Indy.

Florida..... Where the old people gooooo :)

Darrell... let me correct you...old RICH people go. Shame the only people i see on the beach are the orange pickers. They seem to be the only ones that cant read the NO SWIMMING signs all over the beachs. Im desperate to dig pennies... plus im OLD.

Nice finds  It's nice to see the finds starting to trickle into the forum again.

From looking at your picture and reading your post Dew, you had a very good hunt.
Maybe the older coins do sink fast, but you managed to find a couple of them before
they disappeared. HH Gold Nuggets :wiggle:

GN... nope those two didnt get away from me. The guy i was hunting for got about as much clad as i did, but really dug a lot of copper house parts. Eddie.... me and my wife have a running joke.... she asks me how much i made when i get home.... i put it in double cheese burgers lol. I ended the day with about 5 double cheese burgers.

Thanks guys for looking.

Dew...I go by the Big Mac Index when it comes to how much I bring home..lol !

Big Mac.... good one. I try not to do a lot of clad hunting any more so i have to go with cheaper food so it sounds better to the wife. I also dont show her my stash of coins till the end of the year... looks bigger and i can start looking at new detectors or gizmos before she finds OTHER places to spend it LOL.
