Smaller coil and bad ground

Bob Szabo

New member
I went to a site that I had a bit of trouble with using the 10.5 inch coil. I couldnt get the detector to hold a steady threshold without using it on semi-auto. Today I went back with an 8 inch coil and was able to hunt with the sensitivity on 26 manual.

So... maybe Ive answered my own question but is this what happens with the smaller coil? Is it less effected by mineralized ground?

I did ok considering I went there on a whim a short time before dark, found 5 dropped minnies in an hour.

no a smaller coil is less effected by multiple targets because fewer targets can lie under a smaller coil. that's why you may go and pull a silver dollar in a pulltab park where Joe flying saucer coil will squat. Garrett always talked about using sniper coils in trashy areas, and it makes good sense but most guys want to dig to China...
