Snobbery

New member
I was recently on another forum and was told that because I use a Bounty Hunter metal detector that I was basically stupid and didn't know anything. The subject BTW had nothing to do with metal detecting.

Isn't that just as ridiculous as saying that you would not utilize a doctor who drove a Kia?

Perhaps those snobs had mother's that didn't tell them that they were loved. Perhaps the Lord shorted them anatomically and now they feel insecure or something along those lines.

The fact is that I have gone detecting with people using Whites and Minelab detectors and kept up or excelled in finding coins.

It is too bad there are such buffoons in the world.

That's what happens when they have some competition or someone invades there space.
You have to develop a thick skin and just ignore them.
Most of the time they do not know that other people can be smarter than then.
It does not matter what detector you swing its how you are perceived as an individual and what you bring to the hobby.

Bottom line on this is what was in the ground that was found..... Not what it was found with!!! I've seen posts of 3 seperate, similar items that were found w/ 3 different units. comments on the finds were the same.... but, different units found 'em! Individual choices, I reckon.

:usmc:

I would not worry about the limited space some of these guys minds occupy. Most I would bet have never looked into the history of metal detecting, the contributions BH has made to it, let alone have they paid the price of actually having to learn how to make a machine work without all the reliance on training wheel bells and whistles.

There are always at least one of my Garrett's or my White metal detectors in my pickup. My BH Pioneer 505 is always there when any of them are. You think of the money these guys have sunk into some of their machines only to have a BH keeping up with or out doing them, their bound sooner or later to take it out on that they fear most.

The sky is the limit when spending on Metal Detectors, Golf Clubs, Scuba Gear, Boats, Fishing Gear, Etc...But what's the point if you don't go out and enjoy them....That's the main objective of owning any toy...(Also, by the time you hit middle age, you quit worrying about what people think of your stuff anyway)...Happy Hunting!

Howdy, thought I'd share this story even though I post on one of the other forums. The president of my detecting club huts with a Bounty Hunter. He takes a lot of grief for not "bucking up" and getting another machine.

Last month, he discovered a cache with over 160 coins, 65+ being Morgans and Peace Dollars. That shut the critics up just fine.

Regardless of what machine you are swinging, knowing it well is the key. I currently hunt with a Minelab but the money to buy it was provided by finds with my Tracker IV.

Hey Mike:

I think you are 100% right. That unemployed fellow in England who bought a used metal detector for $6.00 or however much it was, found a $4,000,000.00 treasure trove with it. My bet is that it was not a Whites or some other high-end machine.

The reality is that most modern machines use the same basic processes/technologies. There are various whistles and bells but my guess is that 90% of those are designed to separate people from their money.

BOUNTY HUNTER LIVES & always will!!!! So will all the others.....Please... post your finds... & Utilize your "Put - Downs" to another forum!!!! This forum is "BOUNTY HUNTER"! :bounty: :please:

Oh I love Bounty Hunter. I believe that for the money there is no better machine. My Elite 2200 will do 98% of what the $1000 machines do and it cost less than $150.

I totally agree with everyone. My first metal detector was a BH Quick Draw and I am pleased with all the great finds that I have managed to find with it. Since than, I have bought a GTI 1500 , but still use my BH and enjoy both machines.Even though there are so many detectors out there with different price ranges and functions, I feel that the (person) who uses his or her detector is more important than the detector itself.
A few months ago, my friend invited me to a hunt from his metal detecting club. I decided to use my BH Quick draw because of the light weight and the confidence that I acquired over many hours of use. To make a long story short, I managed to blow away 90% of the club members that were using detectors that cost 5 times more than what I paid for mine. My pont is that, It's not what you use but how you use it. Maybe Bounty Hunter is not the high in detector, but it is a good quality one for the price and I have allot of rings, jewelry and coins to prove it.
In conclusion, this is a hobby that is enjoyed by everyone and not by just those who feel they have to pay allot of money to do so.
HAPPY HUNTING TO EVERYONE !
TRIPLE-SSS

I too have a BH QD II and I have actually had people not want to talk or deal with me because I use a BH. Aside from this forum, I have only found 1 or 2 other forums that I can mention that I use a BH w/o someone giving me a hard time. There's only a couple of places local to me that I went to when I was first looking at a MD and told them I was thinking of a BH (mostly because of price) and I was told BH is junk and that any machine less than $400 is a kids toy, $400 - $700 is a good starting machine and $1000+ for a decent machine. Needless to say, I havent been back to those stores. I've only been at it for about 2 yrs or so but the one consistent piece of advice I heard here and on the other forums I got to is the same thing Triple Ess said, it's not so much the detector but the person swininging it, they all stress... learn your detector and you'll do ok with it. BTW, I'm still learning. The best thing I did was to join this and one other forum, between these 2 forums I've learned so much it's not funny, there's a lot of good info here.

It rather reminds me of the downhill skiing crowd. So many spend large quantities of money on expensive skis, boots and bindings when they would do just about as well by tying a couple of 1 x 4s onto their feet. I think the root cause of the phenomena is insecurity. Many people think that they attain status by flaunting expensive stuff. I used to work at Weyerhaeuser, the giant forest products company. Sometimes I would be behind George Weyerhaeuser on my way to work. He was, at the time, the highest paid executive in the USA. His car was about a four year old Oldsmobile that he drove himself. Those who know they are okay have no need to put on a show to try to convince others how "good" they are.

I really like that last sentence and I think that sums it up perfectly.

I have a well-heeled friend who spent over $250,000 on a KITCHEN. Neither he nor his wife can prepare a meal that can beat anything from Boston Market.
And I have another friend (a well-known tv celebrity chef) who, to prove a point, cooked an amazing dinner using a skillet and a hot plate purchased at a Salvation Army store for under $5.00 total. (And he has his own line of high-priced cookware sold on his show.)
Enjoy the Bounty Hunters...they can get the job done if you do your part.

G'day fellas,
I haven;t been on the forum for quite some time and I just stumbled onto this post.
I, myself have a Tracker iv and I can tell you I have flogged a few people using more expensive machines no worries.
A weekend or two ago I did on old house yard and came up trumps with a pretty good hunt. Nearly every target was a hidden treasure incluing one gold ring.
Also a few old pennies and half pennies and 1 silver sixpence.
Not to mention the usual 1c and 22 pieces and junk.
For the value for money, the Tracker IV is a awesome machine and can hold it's own no doubt.
Alright for 2hr hunt.
Cheers and HH
Brad....
