Snuck out a silver in a short hunt this morning...

Got out for a quick hunt this morning; tried a new site for me -- an old (not sure how old) elementary school in town. It was tough hunting, LOTS of trash in the spot I hunted, machine in near constant nulling in much of the area, but it's a big school with a very large playground in back, that I need to try next time; this time I stayed in front of the school.

I managed to find a silver -- a 1916-S Merc. ALMOST hit the jackpot (needed that "D" mintmark!). It was less than 3" deep, surprisingly...also got a 1921 wheatie at about 6".

Nice find....I love that surreal moment when it could be the "D". It's happened to me twice so far....I got the "S" and "P"....just need that golden ticket Mr. Wonka !

I love the old Mercs - even if they're worn and all! I'll take a worn teens merc to a nicer 40s merc any day.

Yeah, Bruce, this one was pretty worn -- more so than most I find, but it's a very cool coin nonetheless! You think about the world back then -- you were in the middle of World War I, and the Great Depression was still THIRTEEN YEARS in the future! WOW! That's one of the cool things about this hobby...the history...
