So ... Do You Think It's Okay to Pray For a Good Find?

Greetings to everyone. I'm brand new to this forum. I participate in several others, but when I saw this "Christian Metal Detecting" forum, I was intrigued and felt compelled to participate. I look forward to posting and interacting here.

But back to my question ... and my story ...

I've been hunting a site in rural Kentucky that was once the location of a grand hotel / mineral spring resort. The hotel burned in 1925 and the site has been, basically, a hayfield since. his site is sort of "low yield - high quality," if you know what I mean. Not many targets, but everything is guaranteed to be old ... since the place burned down so long ago. Over the past month it has given me five indians, a couple of wheaties, and one barber dime. My daughter has also dug an indian, a couple of wheats, and a three-cent piece. Honestly, I had about given up on it, but decided to go back with my new White's MXT and hit some areas I hadn't covered yet.

Anyhow ... I have a confession to make. On the way to the site this past Monday afternoon I prayed. Actually, I am a pastor, so I'm no stranger to prayer. But on this particular day, I prayed very specifically, "Lord, please let me find something absolutely incredible today."

I mentioned that on another forum and was chastised a bit ... some didn't think it appropriate to pray for something good for me. (I suppose they haven't paid much attention to what Jesus said about prayer!) ;)

well, I discovered that the Lord sure does move in mysterious ways ...

I had been digging for about a half hour on the hill descending from the back of the hotel site. I hit a nice strong 76-77 signal on my MXT, and it said it was only 2 inches deep, so I shoveled over a large plug and began to break it up with my fingers. My heart hit my throat when I saw blackened (i.e. OLD) silver ... and the right-facing bust of a woman. I rinsed with a little water and saw the date ... 1805.

I had dug that unbelievable find! An 1805 Draped Bust dime. It is oversized compared to modern dimes (19mm) and razor thin. Unfortunately, the back looks like it was scratched by something long ago ... perhaps a plow. But enough talk! Here are the pictures!!

I also dug a beautiful flat button, a gorgeous white 65 caliber musket ball drop, a 1900 Indian Head penny, and a couple of other whatzits.

Here's a pic of the total haul ...

So, I prayed. God answered. And I am completely "cool" with it.

What do you think?

By the way ... here's my video of the day from my YouTube channel:

Enjoy, and thanks for looking! I'm looking forward to making some new friends here. :whites:

good to see ya here. I do pray for a good find or two but always end with "not my way but yours". Very nice finds - I sure would think there's more there, steve in so az

Hello Kyshooter and welcome to the CMD Forum, very glad to have you posting with us and hope you continue to do so and show us all those nice old finds you are digging up! That area looks like a terrific place to detect/ I used to pray before I went hunting for the Lord to guide me to a good area to hunt and for a good find! But I do try to say, Not my will but Thine, oh Lord! Glad you are preaching the Gospel of Jesus and when we pray God says believe in your heart and you shall have what you desire! We mustn't do it for greed but many times we don't receive blessings because we dont ask nor give Him prasie, honor and glory for what He has and is doing for us as His Children! Why wouldn't we ask for something good to find, because it wouldn't behoove anyone to ask for something bad! The Lord has blessed me with detecting areas and with some nice finds....and I don't feel guilty for asking at all and when I found a nice or actually any find, I would just say, Thank You, Jesus, but if not God's Children many others will try to make you feel guilty for asking for the nicer things in life, for He does want to please His own, as long as we ask in faith believing and then Thank Him, for His many blessings! I suggest hunting around the springs as people used to dip and or draw the water out and lose things falling out of the pockets! Good luck and May God Bless you and your daughter with lots of nice coins and relics! Amen! Ma Betty

Hey There KS, From my point of view, it's perfectly okay to pray before you going hunting. I do. It brings me peace to know that Jesus is with me, in spirit, and it's nice to find that really awesome something. Even if I don't find anything, I'm delighted to have been given another day enjoying God's great out-of-doors. Unfortunately we don't have the history here, in Michigan, that you enjoy there in Kentucky but some, of our fellow detectorists, do find some very rare finds. Years ago I gave serious thought to buying a White's MXT but ended up purchasing the M6 enstead. I've since sold the M6 and now hunt with the Minelab Safari and love it! I've never found anything like that you have shown here but one never knows what tomorrow will bring? Hey...it's good to see you here on the Christian forum and enjoyed your post. Welcome friend!

welcome!!!!! i do not see anything wrong with praying for anything that will not hurt someone else! its up to god if your prayer gets answered anyway.

WOW, that is a great find indeed. I would say the praying worked. Now I'm praying for this SNOW to be gone so I can get out there and do some detecting.

I'm always thankful to the Lord for my finds, but I really don't ask for good ones. I've found a few goodies though including quite a few gold nuggets.

Thanks for the video KYShooter - I've saved it on my computer.

God wants good things for us .....We are His Children I want good things for my children......hh........Bro Dan

regardless of what anyone thinks Jesus still listens. !!!!! Now: On that dime it sure is sweet. Your right it was hit by a plow at some time in the past. That is why you see a scratch across the back face and a nick at about the 7:00 position. Also on the 2 metal pieces found, the one with the prongs is a women's hair barrette and the other piece with the slots in it are harmonica reeds. I believe they both date to the same period as the dime as well. ok. Anyway I hope this helps. Until later; May God Bless you And Yours. PEACE:RONB
